A healthcare provider in Edmonton seeks a Psychiatric Aide to join their multidisciplinary team. You will assist with patient care, report on well-being, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for young adults experiencing mental health challenges. Applicants should have recent experience in mental health and hold a Grade 12 completion. The position offers competitive pay and full-time hours.
Your Opportunity:
One in five people experience a mental health concern. Located at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, the Young Adult Evaluation, Treatment and Reintegration Service (Unit 12-A) is a short stay, fast-paced 26-bed acute care multidisciplinary psychiatry program for medically stable clients aged 17 to 26 years. The Psychiatric Aide is an integral member of the Unit 12-A collaborative team. This inpatient program is intended for clients diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder who require recovery-based support and interventions as they transition from an acute phase of illness toward stabilization. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.
Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications: Two years' recent (within the past four years) experience in Mental Health and Addictions role. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an Acute Psychiatry setting. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient needs. Working knowledge of patient and family centered care principles.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care.
