Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a term Nurse in Mental Health to provide in-person, day-shift care in hospital-wide services. The role requires RN/NP registration, 4+ years of mental health nursing, and experience with community/ambulatory care.

Certification in non-violent crisis intervention is required, with ongoing education encouraged. Applicants must be CRNM/CRPNM active and prepared for a shift-based schedule; cross-site practice within WRHA is possible.

Position Overview

Experience

• Minimum four years recent mental health nursing experience required.
• Previous experience in community and/or ambulatory care nursing is preferred.
• Prior experience in Consultation Liaison Nursing is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Graduate from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required.
• BN or BScMH or BScPN or equivalent as recognized is required.
• Master’s degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing or Family Therapy is preferred.

SPECIAL TRAINING:

• Certification in “Non-Violent Crisis Intervention” required.
• Ongoing relevant continuing education in the mental health field is required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Must be a graduate of an approved School of Nursing and an active practicing member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).
• Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

• Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
• Demonstrated effective assessment, interviewing, psychotherapeutic and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision, establish priorities and problem solve effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively with other disciplines involved in patient care.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of DSM 5 diagnostic classification and nursing diagnosis.
• Demonstrated ability to educate in formal and informal settings.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and adult learning theory.
• Demonstrated competence as group leader and/or facilitator.
• Knowledge of an integrated conceptual framework for mental health nursing in an expanded role.
• Research experience would be an asset.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate to heavy physical effort required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
