Job summary

Health PEI is seeking Provincial Pharmacy Services Coordinators across Hospital Operations, Compounding or Professional Practice to provide strategic and operational leadership for safe, patient-centered pharmacy services across Charlottetown area hospitals. You will work with the Pharmacy Leadership Team to standardize practices, education frameworks, and quality initiatives, while integrating services across sites and maintaining a clinical practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or equivalent/entry-level PharmD.
  • Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in PEI.
  • Experience as a registered pharmacist in a health system is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for pharmacy staff, providing coordination and real-time issue resolution.
  • Develop and support education and training initiatives for pharmacists and technicians.
  • Oversee workflows, identify risks, and implement improvements to ensure safe service delivery.
  • Provide coaching on workflows and service expectations.
  • Monitor compliance with standards and participate in quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate on medication safety initiatives and policy implementation.
  • Maintain portfolio dashboards for KPIs and operational metrics.
  • Lead and participate in team meetings and committees.

Job description

The Provincial Pharmacy Services Coordinator (3 positions in each area: Hospital Operations, Compounding or Professional Practice) provides strategic and operational leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered pharmacy services across Health PEI. Working collaboratively with other members of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, Pharmacy Technician Supervisors, pharmacy staff and interprofessional partners, the Coordinator advances safe, consistent, and evidence-informed medication management practices across multiple sites and programs. This role supports one or more key portfolio areas and contributes to the development of standardized practices, education frameworks, and quality improvement initiatives. Acting as a key liaison between pharmacy services and other Health PEI services, the Coordinator facilitates effective communication, supports interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensures integration of pharmacy services within the broader healthcare system.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serves as a point of contact for pharmacy staff, providing coordination, guidance, and real‑time issue resolution to support safe and efficient pharmacy service delivery.
  • In collaboration with other members of the Pharmacy Leadership Team and pharmacy staff, develops and supports education and training initiatives, onboarding and orientation processes, and competency assessments to support pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across the organization.
  • Oversees pharmacy workflows identifying risks, inefficiencies, or delays and implements improvement measures.
  • Provides coaching and practice reinforcement related to workflows and service expectations.
  • Continually monitors compliance with relevant standards.
  • Acts as a key liaison between pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician Supervisors, and the Pharmacy Managers, facilitating communication, coordination, and timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Collaborates on medication safety initiatives, including incident review and continuous quality improvement.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Pharmacy Leadership Team to operationalize medication management policies and practice guidelines, ensuring they are effectively integrated into daily pharmacy operations.
  • Establishes and maintains a portfolio‑specific dashboard of key performance, operational, and quality indicators.
  • Maintains awareness of emerging scopes of practice for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and supports the implementation and integration of expanded scope activities into hospital‑and health system–based pharmacy practice.
  • Performs administrative responsibilities.
  • Maintains apart-time clinical practice.
  • Facilitates regular team meetings and performance check‑ins.
  • Participates in committees and working groups as required.
  • Serves as a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, and as a supervisor as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy or Entry Level PharmD.
  • Eligible for licensure/licensed as a pharmacist with the Prince Edward Island College of Pharmacy.
  • Considerable experience as a registered Pharmacist.
  • Experience working in a team environment is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Previous hospital/health system pharmacy experience preferred
  • The ability to self‑direct and work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  • Must have a good previous work and attendance record.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must have demonstrated leadership, organization and problem‑solving skills, superior attention to details and accuracy
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, and change management experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the application of clinical standards and best practices in hospital or healthcare systems pharmacy that improve patient care, patient safety, resource utilization and workflow is required
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of critical appraisal of medical literature, drug utilization evaluation and drug utilization review.
  • Experience in facilitating, planning, and implementing projects.
Other Qualifications:
  • Experience building effective working relationships with stakeholders is an asset
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Cerner applications is preferred
  • An Accredited Canadian Pharmacy Residency in a hospital, or a traditional or working professional PharmD is preferred
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field will be considered an asset
  • Leadership in professional associations, such as the Canadian Society of Healthcare-systems Pharmacy, or other community associations is considered an asset
Salary Range: $62.29 - $72.18 per hour
Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 Hours Bi-Weekly / Monday – Friday / Days
Primary Location – Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown
Secondary Location – Prince County Hospital, Summerside
