Wood is currently recruiting a Senior / Specialist Protection & Controls Engineer to join our Oil, Gas & New Energies (OGNE) business. This position offers a hybrid work model and can be based in Calgary AB, Edmonton AB, Oakville ON, or Sarnia ON.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer with a proven track record in protection, control, and metering system design for electrical substations. You will provide technical leadership and support to a team of engineers and designers, delivering projects from conceptual stage through construction and commissioning.

Key tasks include conducting protection coordination studies, relay settings, SCADA and HMI configuration, developing AC / DC schematics and three-line diagrams, panel layouts, performing engineering design reviews and factory inspections, and supporting construction and commissioning activities.

Expected

• Minimum 10 years’ Protection & Control engineering experience, including SCADA and metering systems
• Professional Engineer (designation with APEGA (or eligible)
• Proficiency with relay setting and protection tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, ASPEN, CAPE, and experience with SEL and GE relay programming tools
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver projects in a fast-paced environment

Desirable

• 3–4 years’ experience performing protection coordination studies and relay settings for high-voltage utility transmission systems (asset)
• Familiarity with substation protection & control maintenance and operational practices (asset)
• Experience executing EPC projects (asset)
