Job summary

MatchBox Consulting Group, based in Vancouver, BC, seeks an Intermediate Property Accountant to own full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. You will work with property management, leasing, finance, and other teams to ensure accurate reporting and insightful analysis.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in real estate, strong Yardi and Excel skills, and a CPA designation in progress.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience in commercial real estate.
• Full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
• CPA designation or active pursuit is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of income-producing properties.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Maintain ledgers, reconciliations, accruals, and amortization schedules.
• Prepare rent rolls, tenant chargebacks, and management fee calculations.
• Maintain lease and tenant information using Yardi.
• Participate in annual property budgeting and forecasting.
• Prepare variance analysis and provide insights into property performance.
• Support asset valuations, capex, and financial planning initiatives.
• Monitor working capital, cash flow, and owner distributions.
• Collaborate with property management, leasing, treasury, and finance teams.
• Support property financings, intercompany transactions, and special projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.
• Contribute to a high-performing accounting team.

The Opportunity

As a Property Accountant, you’ll take ownership of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of commercial real-estate assets.

You’ll work closely with property management, leasing, finance, and other internal teams, gaining valuable insight into how a sophisticated real-estate organization operates.

What You’ll Be Doing

Property Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of income-producing properties.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages.
• Maintain accurate general ledgers, reconciliations, accruals, and amortization schedules.
• Prepare operating cost reconciliations, rent rolls, tenant chargebacks, and management fee calculations.
• Maintain lease and tenant information using Yardi.
• Participate in annual property budgeting and forecasting.
• Prepare variance analysis and provide meaningful insights into property performance.
• Support asset valuations, capital expenditures, and financial planning initiatives.
• Monitor working capital requirements, cash flow, and owner distributions.
• Partner with property management, leasing, treasury, and finance teams.
• Support property financings, intercompany transactions, and special projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.
• Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing accounting team.

What You’ll Bring

• Approximately 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within commercial real estate or property management.
• Strong full-cycle accounting skills, including financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and variance analysis.
• Experience with Yardi and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• A CPA designation, or progress toward one, is highly valued.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines.
• A proactive, analytical mindset and an interest in understanding the business behind the numbers.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to collaborate across departments.
