Job summary

CNL is seeking a Project Specialist (New Grad) to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and deliver complex equipment and tooling for nuclear applications at the Chalk River site in Ontario.

You will plan, manage, and execute projects from concept through completion, applying the 9 PM Areas and ensuring safety, cost, and schedule objectives are met.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of progressive project management experience applying the 9 Project Management Areas (Scope, Cost, Time, QA, Communications, HR, Risk, Procurement, Integration) to medium-risk projects.
• Ability to understand project dynamics and communicate status concisely to team members and customers.
• Advanced knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation; strong leadership and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of low- to medium-risk EMED projects while meeting schedule, cost, quality, and safety objectives to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Plan projects, develop budgets, and allocate resources through collaboration with clients to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines.
• Lead up to 15 projects annually, with portfolios ranging from $1M to $5M over a 1-to-3-year horizon.
• Assemble and coordinate project teams, including engaging project planning coordinators to develop cost estimates and work package breakdowns.
• Monitor, manage, and report project performance to clients, management, and key stakeholders.
• Lead the achievement of project objectives by setting performance expectations, guiding team members, and driving accountability.
• Establish and manage project budgets and schedules while approving scope changes in accordance with project management guidelines.
• Deliver professional presentations to internal and external audiences, including senior stakeholders.
• Negotiate with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to quality expectations.
• Managing client relationships by maintaining clear communication, reporting project progress, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Bachelor (honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing, OR membership in an Engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization, OR an alternative qualification is a certificate from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
• Experience
  • 1-2 years of progressive experience and resulting knowledge of applying the \"9 Project Management Areas\":Scope, Cost, Time, QA, Communications, Human Resources, Risk, Procurement, and Integration, to medium-risk projects.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to understand project dynamics, identify and remove potential hurdles and roadblocks, communicate with team members and customers and be generally motivated to deliver work on time and on schedule.
  • Ability to build nurture, and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with a moderate number of internal and some external contacts.
  • Ability to understand project technical details and communicate project status concisely.
  • Thorough knowledge of business and management principles involved in project planning, budgeting and resource allocation, leadership techniques, and resource coordination.
  • Knowledge of procurement and financial processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Outlook).
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience applying negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in application of contract administration and Research & Development, and oversight to effectively manage the output of external suppliers
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
