Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Mississauga, Ontario seeks a Project Operations Specialist to coordinate engineering, procurement and manufacturing on multiple nuclear projects. You will work under a Project Manager, ensure safety, quality, schedule and cost adherence, and communicate with clients, suppliers and internal teams across sites.

The role requires 4–6 years of relevant project experience, strong engineering background, and a solid understanding of QA and nuclear safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
  • 4–6 years’ experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement and Project management of reactor components (asset).
  • Understanding of project delivery methodology including critical path scheduling and procurement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate work progression across safety, quality, schedule, cost and contractual requirements.
  • Liaise with project managers, operations specialists, coordinators and departments like Procurement, Engineering, Quality.
  • Produce project deliverables and progress reports; monitor PPQ parts through manufacturing stages.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Quality to ensure timely technical and supplier documentation.
  • Organize meetings and prepare minutes; support project schedule and budget tracking.
  • Maintain project action log and weekly progress reporting to Project Manager.
  • Cultivate relationships with clients and subcontractors; ensure compliance with quality programs and nuclear safety culture.

Job Description
Overview

The Project Operations Specialist will report to a Project Manager (PM) and will be responsible for assigned senior level coordination of engineering, procurement, and manufacturing work for various Retube Projects (Cernavoda Unit 1, Pickering RFBR and Qinshan Units 1 and 2) that the company is executing. This role will require continuous communication with all project team members and stakeholders, and will be responsible for identifying, planning, and implementing various scopes of work under the direction of a Project Manager.

A Project Operations Specialist is expected to have project experience, understand project execution methodology including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality, risk and contract management.

Your role
  • Responsible for assigned scope of the project and accountable for performing duties that facilitate work progressing with safety, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements across multiple projects.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, including project managers, other project operations specialists, project coordinators and departments -Procurement, Engineering, Quality, Client, Logistics Suppliers and Subcontractors as required.
  • Produce various project deliverables including project reports, commercial change notices, , non-engineering turnover documents, etc.
  • Monitor post order progress of reactor component packages specially with respect to supplier documentation like Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and procedures for various precision manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Quality departments to ensure that the technical documents are prepared and supplier documents are reviewed in a timely manner in support of the project.
  • Manage, coordinate and track progress of Prototype/Pre-Production Qualification (PPQ) parts through different stages of manufacturing, testing and acceptance.
  • Visit supplier and sub-supplier facilities to help expedite progress of work with respect to engineering deliverables and various stages of manufacturing including final documentation prior to shipment.
  • Collect project data, and prepare project weekly/monthly progress reports, support schedule updates, review suppliers Monthly Progress Reports (MPR). Provides status and progress reports in support of the Project Manager.
  • Prepare and maintain a project action log to be updated on a weekly basis.
  • Organize meetings with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, project teams and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Interface with engineering for technical items but not responsible for creation of engineering deliverables or resolution of (technical) issues.
  • Provide inputs to the project schedule and/or budget and monitor adherence to project schedule and budget.
  • Track status of project deliverable(s) and milestone(s).
  • Perform with a high degree of independence.
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive relationship with client and subcontractors.
  • Deliver various presentations, reports and/or documents to stakeholders.
  • Ensure work is performed within quality program requirements.
  • Ensure a strong nuclear safety culture is reinforced continuously.

About you
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / BSc in Engineering or equivalent is an asset.
  • Reactor Components Experience: 4 to 6 years’ experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement and Project management of Candu reactor components is an asset. Basic understanding of CNC machining, CMM programs, special processes like Heat treatment, Plating (Gold, Nickel, Chrome), Non-Destructive Examination is an asset.
  • Project Experience: Understanding of project delivery methodology including critical path scheduling, procurement and supply chain methodology and associated inspection and test plans related to reactor components is considered an asset
  • Manufacturing Experience: Experience with Design and Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Inspection of of Reactor Components or Precision machined components.
  • Quality Assurance: Appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand drawings, and specifications is considered an asset.
  • Team Building: Ability to collaborate and thrive in a team environment to work towards common goals.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and customer relationship skills. Demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
  • Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.

Work Location(S):

  • Based at our home office location in Mississauga, Ontario but able to periodically support site locations as required by the project.
  • Requirement is minimum 3 days per week in an office location collaborating with team.
