The Project Manager (Tunnels) Role
- Lead and inspire your teams to achieve excellence through example, professional development, and confidence-building.
- Provide constructive feedback to Project Managers and Coordinators to support their growth and organizational development.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to attract top talent and foster an engaging, sustainable work environment.
- Oversee project execution from start to finish, maintaining rigorous controls, analyzing risks and opportunities, and leading your team effectively.
- Coordinate with trade partners and manage their activities.
- Direct project teams, offering advice and support, while managing schedules and budgets proactively.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants, and clients to meet project goals.
- Encourage efficiency and proactiveness, coaching teams to solve problems and turn challenges into successes.
- Negotiate effectively to achieve positive outcomes while prioritizing project goals.
- Promote and sustain the company's safety programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure quality standards are met through attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- Manage project finances, including planning, budgeting, and purchasing.
- Apply risk management strategies to minimize project risks.
Experience and Requirements of Project Manager (Tunnels):
- 10+ years’ experience in construction, with specific experience in tunnels, underground works, deep shafts, earth stabilization, metro, and rail projects.
- University Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven track record of successful project delivery and team leadership.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to influence and resolve issues effectively.
- Strong knowledge of tunnel construction methodologies such as TBM (rock and soft ground), SEM/NATM, cut and cover, road header, and micro-tunneling.
- Knowledge of geology and geotechnical aspects.
- Experience delivering large-scale projects in partnership environments.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods like Design Build and P3.
- Understanding of financial management, building codes, and legislation.
- Passion for team development and organizational growth.
- Proficiency with scheduling software and good computer skills.
- This position is based in Vancouver, BC; willingness to work throughout the lower mainland is required.
- Frequent travel is expected.
