With offices in Toronto, Montréal, Québec City, Calgary and Vancouver, we provide challenging and rewarding career opportunities across the country. Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for eleven consecutive years and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for fourteen consecutive years, our culture is guided by The McCarthy Way—our shared approach to working with clients and with each other.

The McCarthy Way is built on four core elements: Excellence, through attracting and developing top talent committed to delivering on our Client Commitment; Collaboration, through seamless, integrated teamwork; Inclusion, through eliminating barriers to belonging and success; and Innovation, through delivering maximum value by embracing leading-edge technologies and approaches. Together, these principles shape how we work, lead, and grow—every day.

We are recruiting for a Project Manager, Research and Information to join our team in our Montreal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in legal and/or competitive intelligence, project management or strategic operations, ideally acquired in a law firm or professional services environment and will be responsible for planning, managing and developing initiatives related to legal and strategic research, technology and operational activities. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.

As a Project Manager, Research and Information, you will:

R&I project planning and execution

  • Plan and deliver strategic research, competitive intelligence and technology projects that support the objectives of the R&I team, the broader Clients and Markets team, and the Firm’s priorities.

  • Develop and manage structured project plans and timelines that define deliverables, related workstreams, individual responsibilities, and coordination requirements across teams.

  • Ensure the efficient and rigorous delivery of initiatives with R&I managers, partners, senior leadership, internal clients and cross-functional stakeholders to support alignment, implementation and adoption.

  • Manage initiatives from intake and scoping through implementation and evaluation, including appropriate governance, reporting, and post-project review.

  • Support the improvement of media monitoring, legal and legislative alerts, and competitive intelligence reporting activities by assessing appropriate technology tools and AI solutions, and guiding the development of practical solutions.

  • Promote communication, adoption and change management to encourage buy-in and sustained use of assigned initiatives.

Strategic analysis, AI and continuous improvement

  • Assess and support the adoption of AI-enabled research tools and processes, in collaboration with other managers.

  • Prepare and synthesize industry, legal, market, and competitive developments into executive-ready insights and practical recommendations for leadership.

  • Ensure assigned priorities, scope, and deliverables are aligned with the R&I Strategic Plan and evolving lawyers’ needs.

  • Develop performance indicators, progress reports, and decision-support tools to inform planning and continuous improvement.

Interpersonal relations and change management

  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions, promote alignment and change management, and support effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the development of the team’s project and process management skills by sharing best practices, transferring knowledge and participating in training and development activities.

Technology, data, and electronic resources

  • Manage projects related to technology tools, data analysis, performance indicators and reporting to support operational efficiency, budgeting and evolving business needs.

  • Contribute to the selection, evaluation, deployment and review of research and analysis resources, in close collaboration with R&I managers and team members as well as other functional group members.

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies, LL.B./J.D., or degree in a related discipline.

  • MBA or Project Management certification, such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent, an asset.

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in legal and/or competitive intelligence, project management or strategic operations, ideally acquired in a law firm or professional services environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise in independently managing complex, cross-functional projects.

  • Experience implementing project tracking, reporting, performance indicators and process improvements.

  • Ability to analyze data, trends and market issues in order to develop practical recommendations.

  • Strong organizational and priority management skills, with the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience evaluating vendors, resources or solutions, an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with generative AI, Excel, PowerPoint and monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of financial and business platforms, such as Comp BI, Aderant and Salesforce, an asset.

As a member of the McCarthy team, you will have access to:

  • Outstanding benefits from day one, including insurance premiums paid by the Firm and wellness and technology reimbursements.
  • Competitive compensation and generous time off, including a day off to volunteer and a day off for your birthday.
  • A commitment to professional development and growth opportunities for our people at all levels, supported by a culture that fully embraces and encourages two-way feedback.
  • Strong community involvement and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • A collaborative, cohesive culture that connects lawyers and business teams through collective purpose.
