Job description

Manage Automotive projects/products through the product life cycle to include: design, develop, cost, quote, on-time launch and post launch modifications.

Responsibilities
  • Design new products and accessories for the OE automotive industry.
  • Develop innovative solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate or supply technical drawings and 3 dimensional models of specialized parts, tooling, and assembly.
  • Fabricate prototypes of products in development. Mechanical skills using hand tools & some production machinery.
  • Produce technical drawings, assembly drawings, & bill of materials.
  • Solve problems with and provide technical advice to the production and quality control departments.
  • Assist in sourcing raw materials and components.
  • Work with cost accounting to prepare cost packages and customer quotations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the necessary materials testing requirements of development programs
  • Compile all existing engineering documentation and organize it into the approved design documentation format.
  • Compile customer required documentation and supply it in the appropriate format required per customer.
  • Participate in determining “best in class” for design capabilities with an emphasis on rapid prototyping, lean manufacturing, and innovation.
  • Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises and devises contingency plans.
  • Continuously tracks project through development cycle. Utilizes timelines to maintain program milestones and task resource output.
  • Develops best practices and tools for project execution and management.
Qualifications
  • Candidate should have a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • Four year degree- Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • CAD or technical drawing experience.
  • Self-starter. This is not a “typical” engineering position in which candidates are strictly confined to one discipline. This job entails exposure and functions all through the product development lifecycle.
  • Creativity: This position is one that entails design and problem-solving skill sets.
  • Experience in a production environment. We do not have a “Manufacturing” Engineering staff and the development engineer also has to hand off and coordinate the production of programs.
  • Thermal Forming and plastic injection molding a plus.
