Job description

At Allied, our vision is to make a continuous contribution to our cities and culture—one that elevates and inspires the humanity in all of us. We do this by creating sustainable and distinctive urban environments where people can connect, collaborate and thrive.

Allied has set near‑ and long‑term science‑based emissions reduction targets in alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These include a 42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (from a 2022 base year) and achieving net zero by 2050. To reach these goals, we are implementing a series of energy retrofit and decarbonization projects across our national portfolio.

We are seeking a Project Manager, Energy & Decarbonization to join our Asset & Environmental Sustainability Team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Asset & Environmental Sustainability, this role will lead the execution of energy retrofit and decarbonization construction projects across Canada. Working closely with our Operations teams, consultants, contractors and tenants, you will oversee the delivery of impactful projects—primarily focused on HVAC and electrical systems—that advance Allied’s Net Zero Carbon Plan and other strategic ESG initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background in construction project management, mechanical or electrical engineering, or energy management and a passion for delivering meaningful sustainability outcomes.

What will you do?
  • Lead the planning, management and execution of energy retrofit and decarbonization projects from start to finish, ensuring timelines, budgets and quality standards are met.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address any challenges or risks.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—including local Operations teams, energy managers, contractors, engineering consultants and tenants—to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
  • Support vendor and supplier engagement to foster strong, lasting partnerships.
  • Partner with Allied’s Technical Services, Construction and Development teams to identify synergies between decarbonization projects, capital renewal work and redevelopment initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Allied’s Net Zero Carbon Plan and other key ESG programs.
What are we looking for?
  • 5–8 years of experience managing construction projects, preferably involving HVAC, mechanical or electrical retrofits using a design‑build approach.
  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering; building science; sustainability; or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, materials and best practices.
  • Familiarity with building codes, construction safety regulations and quality control standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • People‑oriented approach, with strong communication and leadership skills for managing contractors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Passion for sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Self‑starter who works effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada.
Would be an asset:
  • Fluency in French.
  • Professional accreditation such as P.Eng., PMP or CEM.
  • Experience managing design‑build or integrated project delivery models.
  • Knowledge of building design, construction and operations in existing buildings.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or drafting software.
  • Graduate degree in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering; building science; or sustainability.
