REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Engineering and Construction, and leads project-based construction teams, managing on-site staff and contractors.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND KEY FUNCTIONS

The Project Manager, Construction is responsible for leading the construction execution of Potentia’s renewable energy projects — spanning solar, wind, and battery energy storage facilities — from pre-construction planning through commissioning and hand-over to Operations. This position owns project and portfolio delivery against budget, schedule, quality, and safety targets, coordinating internal teams and external partners to bring each asset online.

Working across cross-functional internal teams (Development, Environmental, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and Engineering) as well as external stakeholders such as landowners, municipalities, local distribution companies, equipment suppliers, and contractors, the successful candidate takes leadership or supporting roles appropriate to each project phase. The ideal candidate brings a renewable energy background with strong construction project management and leadership skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and protects Potentia’s commercial interests through diligent contract management while maintaining high standards of ethics and safety.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of assigned projects — planning, organizing, and controlling all construction, schedule, and budget aspects from construction through to commissioning and closeout;
  • Contribute to and ensure compliance with detailed construction plans, quality plans, and schedules;
  • Collaborate with in-house and third-party engineering to review drawings at all stages from preliminary through IFC, recommending practical constructability improvements that benefit budget, design, and schedule;
  • Manage efficient project closeouts, including as-builts, deficiency remediation, manuals, training, and hand-over to Operations and Asset Management;
Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Implement and audit project safety programs;
  • Monitor contractor compliance with building, electrical, and safety codes and other applicable regulations;
  • Assist with the investigation of incidents/accidents and review incident reports and mitigations to ensure proper procedures are followed;
Contractor, Contract & Procurement Management
  • Set up POs and COs in NetSuite in line with accepted scopes, rates, and pricing breakdowns;
  • Ensure construction milestones are achieved and approve invoices, coordinating clearly with accounting for accurate and timely invoice processing;
Budget, Schedule & Cost Control
  • Monitor progress and cost against plan; identify and forecast deviations early, and request and help establish recovery plans to return projects to planned schedule and budget;
  • Prepare, submit, and control budget expenditures and progress using project tracking tools;
  • Manage the impact of delays, working with contractors and other project stakeholders to resolve;
  • Review completed projects and recommend improvements and lessons learned for future projects;
Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership
  • In collaboration with the Development Project Manager, serve as the construction-phase point of contact for landowners and host communities — coordinating site access, notifications, and disruption mitigation, and responding promptly to concerns and complaints to maintain positive relationships through to construction completion;
  • Lead and direct project construction teams — setting clear goals, clarifying the project plan, and engaging internal and external stakeholders to create alignment;
  • Provide reporting, requested information, and recommendations to the Vice President, Engineering and Construction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Diploma or degree in construction management, engineering, or a related scientific discipline, with a minimum of five (5) years of project management experience;
  • Preferably 5–10 years of relevant experience, including hands-on construction project management;
  • Comprehensive technical understanding of renewable energy construction including solar, wind, and battery energy storage is strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated process- and systems-oriented approach to project management, with the ability to manage concurrent projects and activities;
  • Knowledge of the Canadian construction industry and of applicable building, electrical, and safety codes, with experience resolving technical matters;
  • Experience with construction risk management, quality control, and safety planning (e.g., site inspections and plans-of-day);
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to planning and process mapping;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic;
  • A strong desire to bring best practices to the team, share knowledge, and enable the mutual success of team members as the organization grows;
  • Professional certification (PMP, P.Eng., CET, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and project-management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project);
  • Experience with cost-control and ERP systems (NetSuite or similar) and document-management platforms;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook);
  • Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude) to support reporting, document review, and day-to-day project administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction project management experience, preferably on large-scale renewable energy projects or similar infrastructure;
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required;
COMPENSATION
  • Base salary range: $110,000 to $130,000 CAD, commensurate with experience.
  • Target annual bonus: 15% of base salary.
