Job summary

The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Bridge Infrastructure Manager to lead the County’s bridge program, oversee inspections, maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement, and ensure safe, reliable infrastructure.

You will coordinate with Engineering Consultants, Contractors, and internal departments, manage project scopes, and uphold high professional standards while supporting a collaborative, values-driven workplace.

Qualifications

  • Trade Certification or technical diploma/degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • Membership in ASET/APEGA or similar is an asset.
  • Minimum five years of municipal/transportation project delivery experience including bridge work.
  • Experience coordinating with consultants, contractors, and regulators.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the County’s bridge infrastructure program, overseeing inspections, maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement.
  • Coordinate scopes of work, procurement, tendering, and contract administration.
  • Maintain bridge file records and develop project priorities and schedules.
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders to coordinate repairs and incidents.

Job Description

As part of the Transportation and Utilities service area, the incumbent manages the County’s bridge infrastructure program and is accountable for maintaining a network of 253 bridge files. The position plans, schedules, and coordinates inspections, maintenance, rehabilitation, replacement, and emergency repair work to ensure bridge infrastructure is managed in a safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective manner.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary function of this position is to deliver the County’s bridge infrastructure program through sound project management, technical review, and contract administration.

Responsibilities include maintaining bridge file records, coordinating inspections and condition assessments, developing project priorities and schedules, preparing scopes of work, supporting procurement and tendering processes, reviewing consultant recommendations, and managing work delivered by Engineering Consultants and Contractors.

The position responds to urgent and emerging bridge infrastructure issues, including motor vehicle collisions, flooding, washouts, structural deficiencies, or other incidents that may affect public safety or infrastructure integrity.

The role coordinates timely assessment, mitigation, communication, and repair activities with internal departments, external agencies, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders as required.

Qualifications
  • Trade Certification, Technical diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership in, or eligibility for membership with, the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or a comparable professional designation would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum five years of related experience in municipal, transportation, or infrastructure project delivery, with demonstrated experience in bridge maintenance, bridge construction, inspections, rehabilitation, replacement, project management, tendering, and contract administration.
  • Experience working with Engineering Consultants, Contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to deliver bridge or transportation infrastructure projects is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision making, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity

Work Schedule: This position works Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm for 40 hours per week with some flexibility and/or additional hours to attend meetings or meet operational needs.

Hourly Pay Range: $57.79 - $67.99
