Job summary

Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in Mississauga, Ontario, seeks a Project Manager (Enterprise Project Delivery) to lead multiple medium‑ to large‑scale projects in parallel. This role requires delivering objectives within timelines and budgets using cross‑functional teams and external vendors.

The ideal candidate has 6–8 years of PM experience, PMP certification, and strong skills in budgeting, governance and stakeholder management.

Qualifications

  • PMP certification is required.
  • Minimum 4 years of university education in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of project management experience with proficiency in PMI methodologies.
  • Experience delivering projects with Waterfall, Agile and hybrid approaches.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills for executive reporting.
  • Experience with project budgeting, charters, RFPs and vendor contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the overall project manager from initiation to closure.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams and manage interdependencies within a program.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, schedules and budgets.
  • Engage external vendors through procurement processes and manage contracts.
  • Monitor project metrics and deliver dashboards to senior management.

Annual Pay Range: For standard 35‑hour work week (Step 1: $111,072 – Step 10: $158,704); the successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate step based on experience and other considerations.

Job Purpose / Summary

The Project Manager (Enterprise Project Delivery) is responsible for delivering multiple medium‑ to large‑scale, enterprise‑wide projects in parallel that meet their stated business objectives within agreed timelines and budgets. Assigned projects utilize cross‑functional teams of internal IESO staff and external service providers/vendors.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the overall project manager responsible for initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of projects.
  • Demonstrate influencing skills to accomplish project objectives in a matrix reporting environment.
  • Apply change management discipline to scope, time and cost changes.
  • Manage the project and portfolio budget, avoid deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Plan and prepare for timely project implementation and close‑out upon approval.
  • Develop accurate project documentation, cost, resource and time estimates; identify necessary technical and non‑technical resources and support management in securing them.
  • Manage project interdependencies within the program/portfolio and ensure efficient resource management in a shared matrix environment.
  • Plan, acquire and engage external services through the IESO procurement process to support delivery.
  • Work with contract managers and procurement in developing RFPs, evaluating vendor submissions, establishing contracts and ensuring vendor resources comply with the statement of work and project objectives.
  • Ensure effective and efficient project handover to responsible areas adhering to the appropriate processes and artefacts.
  • Monitor and ensure effective use of IESO control mechanisms so that major project decisions (e.g., solution design, scope changes) are approved by sponsors and senior management.
  • Work in compliance with all IESO Project Management governance, methodologies, standards, processes and templates.
  • Track project metrics and create dashboards for senior management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely project‑level reporting, including scope, benefits, time, budget and risk.
  • Promote a project‑management best‑practice culture at all levels; develop and execute a communication plan for all stakeholders.
  • Engage IESO’s QA function to ensure an effective QA plan is in place for all projects.
  • Record and apply lessons learned from recent projects.
  • Keep current with latest trends in project and portfolio management and maintain knowledge of best practices.
  • Perform other duties (special assignments) as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline (computer science, engineering, technical service delivery, risk management) or equivalent experience.
  • PMP certification is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical fields relevant to computer science, engineering, technical service delivery and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of project management theory, principles and practices, including PMI best practices.
  • Knowledge of business and IT business methods, procedures and organizational structures.
  • Strong facilitation and communication (written and oral) skills for accurate, concise correspondence, procedures, guidelines and reports.
  • Proven track record of leading projects through all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Solid understanding of PMI methodology, standards, phases, techniques and tools.
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle, infrastructure/network and IT operations.
  • Experience delivering projects using Waterfall, Agile and hybrid methodologies.
  • Experience managing portfolio and project budgets, controlling deviations and recommending corrective actions.
  • Experience with business case, project charter, project plan and schedule development, RFP/RFQ/RFI preparations, negotiations, SOW, vendor contract management and administration.
  • Experience with project monitoring and control, and preparing reports throughout the project life cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an ambiguous environment, collaborate across multiple areas and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Over 6 to 8 years of project management experience (minimum 4‑8 years of project management experience).
