Job description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role description

As part of our continued growth in Western Canada, we are seeking a capable Interface Manager to join our expanding team in Vancouver. The role suits an organised and motivated professional with experience supporting the delivery of large and complex infrastructure projects in the marine, ports, coastal, heavy civil, roads, rail and transit sectors.

The Interface Manager will play a central role in project delivery, supporting the execution of the Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) phase. The interface Manager will oversee and manage all technical interfaces between engineering disciplines, construction work packages, and third-party stakeholders throughout the ESDC phase. The position is office based and supports the ESDC lead in maintaining the projects interface register, coordinates the ESDC work program across the project team, and manage the day-to-day interface with Arcadis subconsultants.

The Interface Manager is the central coordination point for every technical interface arising during the ESDC phase, whether between engineering disciplines, construction work packages, subconsultants, contractors or third parties. Interfaces are treated as managed technical objects. Each one carries a named owner, a current status, an agreed technical position, and a defined closure path.

The role is primarily office based and works alongside the ESDC Lead and senior resident engineer, with periodic site attendance to verify field conditions, witness key activities, and keep coordination grounded in what is actually happening on the ground. The successful candidate will bring the judgement to see where disciplines are about to collide, and the discipline to resolve those points before they reach the critical path.

Role accountabilities

Identify the full interface landscape during mobilization by reviewing design documents, construction packages, staging plans, permits, and the construction program, and establish the baseline Interface Register before construction ramps up. Maintain the register as the single source of truth, capturing parties, disciplines, dependencies, agreed positions, references, target dates, and outstanding actions. Assign a clear owner and status to each interface, elevate stalled items to the ESDC Lead with a recommended resolution, and close items only once the agreed position is documented and issued. Keep related registers for technical queries, RFIs, site instructions, design changes, non-conformance reports, and assurance records up to date and traceable. Report interface status, ageing, and trends to the ESDC Lead and project leadership, highlighting impacts on schedule, cost, safety, or permits.

Manage day-to-day interfaces with Arcadis subconsultants across geotechnical, marine, environmental, survey, and specialist disciplines, including scope alignment, deliverable expectations, and coordination of site attendance. Confirm that subconsultant site presence matches activities requiring engineering oversight, and record attendance, observations, and follow-up actions. Review subconsultant deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and interface alignment before submission, and return items that create unresolved dependencies. Support the ESDC Lead with subconsultant performance monitoring, scope change identification, and resolution of commercial or scope boundary issues.

Lead interface coordination meetings, technical workshops, and construction progress discussions focused on cross-discipline alignment and live interface issues. Prepare agendas, minutes, action logs, and follow-up records, issue them promptly, and hold participants accountable for commitments. Act as the central point of contact on interface matters between the client, contractor, engineering teams, subconsultants, and third parties, ensuring consistent communication. Build and maintain working relationships with utility owners, port and navigation authorities, regulators, municipalities, and Indigenous relations leads where their requirements affect engineering delivery.

Identify interfaces with environmental impacts and coordinate their resolution with the environmental team so construction methods remain aligned with Environmental Management Plans, monitoring requirements, and permit conditions. Reflect fisheries timing windows, sediment and water quality controls, noise and vibration limits, species-at-risk protections, and archaeological requirements in interface positions affecting marine and in-river works. Integrate environmental compliance into engineering delivery and construction decision-making rather than treating it as a separate process. Support project sustainability and climate resilience commitments, including low-carbon construction, material selection, sea level rise, seismic resilience, and reporting against project targets.

Ensure interface resolution follows project procedures for review, approval, and record keeping, and identify where those procedures can be strengthened. Contribute to lessons learned, procedure updates, and continuous improvement across the ESDC function. Mentor junior and intermediate team members, support their technical and professional development, and set the standard for coordination across the project.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 10-12 years of relevant experience Candidates holding a diploma will require a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated delivery experience on large and complex transportation, heavy civil, ports, marine, coastal, rail, or transit projects, including at least one assignment supporting a project through the construction phase
  • Proven track record managing technical interfaces, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, and closing out cross discipline technical issues under construction pressure
  • Working knowledge of construction phase engineering processes, including requests for information, technical queries, design change management, non conformance handling, and as built documentation
  • Strong working command of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, with practical ability to build and maintain registers, trackers, and reporting dashboards
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English, with the confidence to chair meetings attended by senior client, contractor, and discipline representatives
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and to attend active construction sites, including compliance with project health and safety and site orientation requirements
