Job summary

Glencore is seeking a geologist/data specialist to support legacy mine environments through claims management, geological data management, and digital modelling. You will combine office work with field tasks, handling GIS data, geological modeling, and the integration of historical datasets for resource interpretation.

The role involves developing 3D models (Leapfrog Geo, Datamine), QA/QC, and data integration across geological, geophysical, and geochemical datasets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 5–8 years of experience in mining, exploration, or geological data management.
• Familiarity with geological modelling software (Leapfrog Geo, Datamine) and GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and geological database management tools (e.g., acQuire, Datashed, MX Deposit).
• Understanding of QA/QC protocols, sampling techniques, and data validation processes.
• High attention to detail with strong data accuracy.
• Good spatial reasoning and 3D visualization skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in remote field environments and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Effective communication with strong technical writing and presentation skills.
• Interest in continuous learning in geology and data technologies.

Responsibilities

• Participate in geological reviews of legacy mine sites to assess remaining mineral potential and data quality.
• Manage and maintain geological databases and file sets for current and historical data.
• Develop and update 3D geological and resource models using Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, etc.
• Prepare maps and visualizations using ArcGIS/QGIS for reporting and presentation.
• Integrate geological, geophysical, and geochemical datasets to improve understanding of mineralized systems.
• Support compliance and reporting obligations including NI 43-101 or JORC where applicable.
• Travel to site in Canada/USA ~25% for field data collection and validation.
• Assist with claims management and sampling programs with HSEC planning and QA/QC.

The role in a nutshell:

In this role, you will support the Technical Services Team in legacy mine environments through claims management, geological data management, and digital modelling. The role combines office-based and some ad-hoc geology field work, providing exposure to a broad range of geological and data management tasks such as GIS data handling, geological modelling, and the integration and management of historical datasets for resource and reserve interpretation.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

• Participate in geological reviews of legacy mine sites, assessing remaining mineral potential and data quality.
• Supporting the closure teams and business development with geological input on ground conditions, historical workings, and materials characterization.
• Manage and maintain geological databases and file sets for both current and historical data, ensuring consistency, traceability, and quality.
• Compile, validate, and maintain geological, resource and mining data from historic operations.
• Work with the senior geologist to reconcile and standardize old datasets into modern data management systems.
• Support compliance and reporting obligations, including technical documentation, resource estimates, data QA/QC, and coordination with environmental or closure teams.
• Assist in preparing data and reports for claims management and internal compliance with NI 43-101 or JORC standards (if applicable).
• Develop and update 3D geological and resource models (using e.g. Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, etc.).
• Integrate geological, geophysical, and geochemical datasets to improve understanding of mineralized systems.
• Prepare maps, sections, and visualizations using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for reporting and presentation.
• Support ongoing reconciliation between models, historic drilling data, and production information.
• Evaluate historical datasets (reports, drill and assay logs, reports) to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for resource re-assessment or re-interpretation.
• Assist with developing and executing claims management and sampling programs, including HSEC planning, site preparation, sampling protocols, and coordination with contractors.
• Supervise sample collection, preparation, and QA/QC processes to ensure data integrity.

Do you have what it takes?

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 5-8 years of experience in mining, exploration, or geological data management.
• Familiarity with geological modelling software such as Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, and GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS).

Travel: You will be required to travel to the different sites in Canada and USA approximately 25% of the time.

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. The knowledge of French is beneficial.

Location: Corporate office in Toronto when not travelling to sites.

The expected base salary for this position is 88 000 $ to 121 000$, based on competencies, skills, and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. The incumbent will also be eligible to participate in a variable compensation plan (bonus) (note: payment of variable compensation is subject to the terms and conditions of the variable compensation plan and is not guaranteed).
