Job summary

COVE in Dartmouth, NS is seeking a Project Financial Analyst to support financial reporting across programs, manage cash flow, forecasting, claims, and project invoicing while maintaining accurate records for management review.

The role collaborates with project managers and the Finance team in a hybrid work environment, focusing on budgeting, variance analysis, and compliance with funding requirements and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Post secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial support across assigned projects and programs, with responsibility for cash flow management, forecasting, claims, financial reporting, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly funding claims, project invoices, reimbursement requests, and related reports, ensuring costs are eligible, properly supported, and submitted by required deadlines.
• Interpret funding agreements, monitor financial conditions and reporting obligations, and coordinate complete and accurate submissions to funders.
• Compile and validate budget-to-actual results, forecasts, variance explanations, and dashboard inputs for management reporting and decision-making.
• Develop and maintain project financial models, cash flow forecasts, and supporting analysis.
• Maintain accurate project financial records and spreadsheets covering budgets, expenditures, commitments, funding allocations, claims, invoices, and payments.
• Perform ad hoc financial analysis and identify discrepancies, trends, risks, and matters requiring management attention.
• Serve as a financial resource to project managers and other cross-functional teams, providing guidance on COVE policies, funding requirements, cost eligibility, financial reporting, and project-related inquiries.
• Support month-end and year-end activities, including reconciliations, working papers, schedules, management reporting, and external audit requirements.
• Provide additional financial support across projects and programs as priorities and operational requirements evolve.
• Ensure compliance with COVE’s policies and procedures, including human resources, safety, and operational standards.
• Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the success and growth of COVE’s programs and strategic initiatives.

The Opportunity

The Project Financial Analyst supports financial reporting and analysis across COVE projects and programs, adapting to changing priorities and providing assistance where needed. The role is responsible for cash flow management, forecasting, claims preparation and tracking, project invoicing and reimbursement, dashboard inputs, and maintaining accurate supporting records for assigned projects. As part of the Finance team, the position works closely with project managers and cross-functional teams to provide timely, reliable financial information that supports management reporting and decision-making.

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst, the Project Financial Analyst independently completes assigned financial responsibilities within established policies, procedures, and funding requirements. The position may be assigned primary responsibility for smaller or less complex projects and will also provide financial support across other projects and programs as required. The role works closely with project managers, the Finance team, and other cross-functional teams to obtain and interpret financial information, resolve discrepancies, support project delivery, and respond to changing priorities.

What You Bring:

• Post secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience in financial reporting, project accounting, claims preparation, budgeting, or financial analysis.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and the maintenance of structured financial workbooks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify discrepancies and prepare clear supporting analysis.
• Ability to manage recurring monthly deadlines and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear oral and written communication skills, including the ability to obtain, clarify, and document financial information.
• Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, project accounting, and cash flow analysis.
• Experience with financial systems and reporting tools such as NetSuite.
• Ability to work independently within established procedures and collaboratively with Senior Financial Analyst, Finance team, project leads and other staff.
• Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multi-task and ability to adapt to changing priorities, problem solve and be efficient in a fast-paced environment is a must.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with an aptitude for numbers.
• Ability to act responsibly and ethically when working with sensitive financial information, whether it is company or personal information with the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Additional Assets:

• Experience preparing funding claims, reimbursement requests, or project invoices in the government-funded, or project-based environment.
• Exposure to the technology Sector is an asset.
