Job summary

WSP Global Inc. in Canada is seeking a Project Financial Advisor, ERI (Project Accountant) to support the financial health of projects across the country.

You will bring clarity to project financials, help project teams stay on track, and enable leaders to make informed decisions. You will oversee a portfolio of projects, attend delivery meetings, lead financial reviews, manage cost and revenue transactions, ensure contract values and addenda are loaded, and support month-end close and audits

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in administration or accounting is required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in project accounting and financial/operational management.
• Experience with professional services industry and ERP systems like Oracle is preferred.
• Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial oversight for a portfolio of projects across multiple PMs.
• Attend regular meetings to discuss the financial status of projects.
• Lead financial reviews to ensure compliance with standards and policies.
• Assist with setup, monitoring, updating, and closure of project finances.
• Ensure timely recording of all cost and revenue transactions.
• Maintain accurate project setup reflecting as-sold price, costs and margins.
• Coordinate with Billing to ensure invoices are prepared and sent timely.
• Support month-end close and prepare ad hoc financial reports.

The Opportunity

As a Project Financial Advisor, ERI, commonly referred to as a Project Accountant; you will support the financial health of projects that shape communities across Canada. You will bring clarity and consistency to project financials, helping project teams stay on track and enabling leaders to make informed, sound decisions.

Your Impact

• Provide support and oversight on a portfolio of projects with multiple Project Managers across business units.
• Attend regular meetings with the Project Delivery Team regarding the financial status of projects.
• Lead financial reviews for projects to ensure compliance with accounting standards and corporate policies.
• Assist Project Managers throughout the financial lifecycle of a project, including setup, monitoring, updating, and closure.
• Accurately reflect each project’s financial status by ensuring the timely recording of all cost and revenue transactions.
• Ensure projects are set up and updated accurately, mirror the as-sold price, cost, and margin of the contract, and have addenda, change orders, and purchase orders that support the contract value loaded in the system.
• Work with the Project Delivery Team to ensure timely project reviews are performed, Estimates to Complete and Estimates at Completion are prepared and updated, and financial issues related to earnings, cash flow, and reporting are addressed.
• Assess project financial risks and assist with updating project risk registers and revenue adjustment forms as needed.
• Train and educate Project Delivery Teams on the use of project analysis tools, dashboards, Oracle, and other relevant systems.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of the company’s revenue and costing methodologies while providing financial expertise to the Project Delivery Team.
• Assist with external and internal project audit requirements.
• Understand the commercial, billing, and payment terms of projects and act as a liaison with the Billing team to ensure invoices are prepared and sent to clients in a timely manner.
• Assist the Controller with project-related reserves, including Estimate at Completion adjustments, accounts receivable, work in progress, legal claims, and pro formas.
• Support the Controller during month-end close activities as required.
• Prepare and analyze variances relating to project costs and revenue.
• Provide financial assistance during bid and pursuit phases as required.
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports for the Controller and management.

You bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in administration or accounting.
• At least 3 years of experience in project accounting and in financial and operational management.
• Knowledge of the professional services industry, project-based accounting, and enterprise resource planning systems.
• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated professional judgment and strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent command of Microsoft Windows tools.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of Oracle, which would be considered an asset.
