Job summary

City of Medicine Hat is seeking a Project Engineer – Municipal Works to lead diverse municipal infrastructure initiatives. You will drive projects from planning and design to construction, managing budgets and coordinating with contractors, consultants, and internal departments.

Bring a Civil Engineering degree and 6+ years of related experience, plus a strong grasp of regulatory standards, design reviews, and public engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; municipal engineering preferred.
• Six (6) years of related professional engineering experience in transportation and stormwater planning/design/project management preferred.
• APEGA registration required; PMP/RSP assets considered.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Safety sensitive role with pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Lead municipal infrastructure projects from planning through tendering, construction, and commissioning.
• Coordinate road improvements, stormwater infrastructure, traffic projects, and other municipal initiatives.
• Review designs and drawings for compliance with municipal standards and servicing requirements.
• Provide technical engineering advice on transportation systems and development proposals.
• Coordinate approvals, public engagement, regulatory requirements, and communications with partners.
• Manage budgets, schedules, consultants, and contractors for project delivery.
• Prepare capital plans, cost estimates, business cases, and funding applications.
• Research engineering best practices and apply to planning and design.
• Represent Municipal Works on committees and with other departments, developers, consultants, and government agencies.
• Engage residents through open houses and public conversations, addressing concerns.
