Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Canada is seeking a Project Engineer / Electrical Engineer to join their Transportation electrical team. This role involves acting as technical lead on projects, preparing detailed designs for transportation electrical systems, and conducting vital calculations to meet engineering standards. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in design consultancy, knowledge of standards, and proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD and AGi32. The position offers a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of (5) years continuous experience in detailed design and design consultancy.
  • Previous experience in Transportation and Transit projects.
  • RAQS certification would be considered an asset.

  • Prepare detailed designs for transportation electrical systems.
  • Conduct detailed calculations to ensure designs meet standards.
  • Perform site visits and contract administration.

Your work environment

In this role, you will be a part of the Transportation electrical team of the Building sector.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Act as technical lead and/or project manager on electrical projects
  • Act as a senior technical resource and electrical task lead
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor
  • Prepare detailed designs for transportation electrical systems using AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Conduct detailed calculations such as voltage drop, photometrics, conductor and conduit sizing, and grounding to ensure that designs meet relevant engineering standards and applicable codes
  • Perform complete lighting analysis using AGi32
  • Develop traffic signal design and layouts
  • Design of electrical layouts for cable raceways/underground conduits, lighting, panel schedules design, lighting poles and base details, luminaire schedule, electrical grounding
  • Preparing Contract documents, including specifications and cost estimates
  • Perform site visits and contract administration
What your experience looks like
  • An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited University, and P.Eng is required
  • Minimum of (5) years continuous experience in detailed design and design consultancy
  • Knowledge of IES-RP-8 and Roadway lighting and Parking lot lighting
  • Previous experience in Transportation and Transit projects is a must
  • Experience with advanced lighting design tools (AGi32 and Autolux)
  • Knowledge of various municipal and MTO lighting and traffic signal design standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and SPIDACalc
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (OESC, CSA, OBC, NFPA, AREMA and IEEE standards)
  • RAQS certification would be considered as an asset.
