Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. Ad hoc site travel will be required.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer performs the role of ensuring that the Perth and site management teams and contractors are technically supported to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to high standards that meet our stakeholder’s expectations and requirements.

The Project Engineer must be highly experienced in the technical aspects of construction with an in‑depth knowledge of current construction practices on mine sites and work collaboratively to build great relationships with our stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivery and management of water projects to support the construction of dewatering assets
  • Technical assurance and review of preliminary engineering, detailed engineering and construction packages.
  • Stakeholder management of internal and external stakeholders, including operational projects personnel and contractors, consultants, and the broader Fortescue family
  • Drive schedule improvements to reduce delivery timeframes safely
  • Deliver cost and capital effective solutions to improve the project’s capital intensity whilst delivering the projects scope on time and within budget safely
  • Attending project planning, risk assessments and kick‑off meetings
  • Meeting facilitation including team, progress to plan, kick‑off etc.
  • Liaising with Area Managers, Superintendents, Supervisors, Project Managers, Contractors, and Stakeholders on all relevant matters
  • Completing safety audit and ensuring BMS obligations are met
  • Provide effective and strategic reporting and communications of project performance
  • Interpret and implement Engineering design discipline and specifications.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3‑5 years industry experience working in a similar role
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large, complex and multi‑discipline projects
  • Demonstrated experience in the mining industry across non‑process infrastructure. Dewatering projects preferred
  • Experience with project budgeting and cost control
  • Demonstrated experience managing external design consultants
  • Ability to successfully engage internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Proactive and self‑motivated, with a drive for excellence
  • Results driven, responsible and accountable
  • Ability to manage under pressure and adapt quickly to change
  • Great problem‑solving skills and a passion for innovation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
