Job summary

Valard Construction is seeking a Project Engineer based in Port Hawkesbury, NS to support the construction of a new Data Center. You will be the primary technical contact for clients and ensure project documentation is complete, addressing inquiries promptly while maintaining high-quality design standards.

The role involves site-based duties, review of specs and drawings, and coordination with the construction team. A 3-year project engineering background and Engineering degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or higher in Engineering; professional registration eligible.
  • Minimum 3 years of project engineering experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Write and plan project scope, proposals, estimates, budgets.
  • Develop material and construction specifications.
  • Prepare estimates, procurement support, material take-offs.
  • Track reception of material and inventory.
  • Maintain relationships with internal groups and clients.
  • Provide construction support and address information requests.
  • Review specifications, drawings, and test reports for high quality.
  • Run the Quality Plan and ensure document validity.
  • Liaise with construction personnel on the project.

Job description

Our Data Center group is growing, and we are currently looking to add a Project Engineer to the team, based in Port Hawkesbury, NS.

Reporting to the Director, Data Centers, this position will support the construction of a new Data Center and serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients as needed. Based on site, this position will offer construction support, generate non-compliance reports when necessary, and promptly address any inquiries from the construction team while ensuring the completion of project documentation. Additionally, the position will identify and suggest solutions for issues and meticulously reviewing specifications, drawings, and test reports to uphold high-quality design standards.

Please Note: this position will work on-site on a shift of 21 days days on / 7 days off, with 10 hours / day.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Write and plan project scope, proposals, estimates, change notices, budgets and similar documents
  • Develop material and construction specifications
  • Prepare estimates, procurement support, material take-offs, requisitions, design packages and technical evaluations
  • Track reception of material and inventory
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with internal groups and clients.
  • Provide construction support, write non-compliances reports (when necessary), and responding to information requests from construction team and ensuring project documentation is completed
  • Find, recommend, and provide solutions to problems
  • Checking specifications, drawings and test reports to ensure high-quality design
  • Run the Quality Plan and ensure the validity of documents related to the quality and monitors them
  • Act as liaison and technical resources for all construction personnel on the project
  • Post-Secondary degree in Engineering
  • 3 years of relevant project related engineering experience
  • Registered, or eligible to register, as an Engineer or Engineer In Training with a Provincial association
  • Have and maintain a class 5 driver's license in good standing
Preferred Skills / Experience
  • Experience with Data Center construction projects
  • Experience with large electrical projects
  • Experience with JD Edwards (or similar ERP systems)
