Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. in Winnipeg is seeking a project management professional to lead medium to large capital projects, coordinate plans, budgets and schedules, and prepare CAPEX requests. You will provide engineering support to operations, manage contractor on-site, and drive continuous improvement using Six Sigma and project management tools.

The role requires an engineering degree, P.Eng. eligibility, and PMP is a plus; you will collaborate with senior management to justify expenditures and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility to obtain is preferred.
  • PMP certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience as a project engineer or equivalent project experience.
  • Proven track record of handling multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage capital project plans, budgets, and schedules (annual and multi-year) and prepare CAPEX requests.
  • Provide engineering support for the operations group.
  • Assist senior management in developing and justifying capital expenditure requests.
  • Investigate practical, cost-effective plant improvement solutions.

  • Negotiate contracts and supervise equipment vendors, service providers, and contractors.
  • Supervise contractors on site and form/manage project budgets and schedules.

Job description

The Opportunity:
This position requires a project management individual with superior communication skills and the ability to multi-task in order to complete medium to large sized projects simultaneously.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
  • Develop and manage (Capital) project plans, operations, budgets and schedules (annual and multi-year) and prepares CER's (Capital Expenditure Requests)
  • Provide engineering support for the operations group
  • Assist senior management in developing and justifying capital expenditure requests
  • Investigate practical, cost-effective and innovative plant improvement solutions
  • Utilize and incorporate Six Sigma and other project management tools, methodology and principles
  • Negotiate contracts and supervise equipment vendors, service providers and contractors
  • Actively participate in company initiatives; e.g. Innovation, Share groups, MyMLF, Energy Efficiency
  • Manage and develop the capital plans of the Plant Manager, Production, Maintenance Managers, Engineering and all other functions to achieve low cost producer status.
  • Supervise contractors when on site.
  • Create project budget based on agreed scope.
  • Form and manage project schedules.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university (preferable mechanical, electrical and/or civil)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility to become a P.Eng.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience as a Project engineer, or equivalent project experience.
  • Proven track record of handling multiple projects and priorities
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Team player with effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and planning abilities combined with practical business sense.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and Project Management software).
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and regulations e.g. OH&S, WHMIS, HACCP.
  • Knowledge and experience with Food industry would be an asset
