A leading engineering consulting firm is seeking a Project Engineer to join their team. This role involves technical leadership in multi-discipline design, managing projects from concept through construction phases. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in power generation. Strong analytical and time management skills are essential for success in coordinating and delivering complex projects.
The Project Engineer is the technical leader of a multi-discipline design team as part of CEM Engineering’s Project Delivery Teams. The Project Engineer supports a client-based project delivery process which includes consulting services, feasibility/FEED services, detailed engineering & design, and construction & commissioning support. The Project Engineer is an experienced engineer with a diverse background and a proven ability to lead technical teams to solve technical problems in an efficient manner. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Coordinates the development of the project concept and leads the project from concept to detailed contract documents (Issued for Construction drawings and specifications). This includes managing the day-to-day of the plan and managing non discipline activities (i.e. permitting, etc.) to ensure project timelines are met. * Project designs typically include cogeneration or CHP (gas turbine, steam turbine, and reciprocating engine prime movers), industrial steam plants, hot water and chiller plants, district energy projects, biogas & RNG projects, and biomass projects. * Project Engineer leads detailed design projects through CEM Engineering’s design cycle/gate review process. * Identify & lead the project delivery team in solving technical challenges and bottlenecks on a project. * Interface with client technical lead and manage technical correspondence. * Lead feasibility studies and project development work. * Willingness to share their experience and knowledge with fellow colleagues having different technical backgrounds. * Coordinate between sub-consultants and internal resources all contributing to CEM’s project delivery process. * Will be required to support the Project Manager or the Project Director in project management activities, including planning/reporting/managing schedule/budget/client relationships. * Will be required to support engineering proposals and business development. * Provide feedback, advice, project updates and encouragement to team members. * Arrange and lead planning and project coordination meetings. * Fully understand and manage the technical, regulatory, commercial and contractual requirements of projects. * Coordinate with site construction and commissioning managers. * Elevate project technical risks to Project Manager or Project Director for mitigation. * Ability to travel within North America * Employee may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS In addition to the key success criteria listed prior, the following knowledge & skills are essential for success in this role: * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering * Minimum of 5 years of experience in project engineering * Experience with power generation or thermal power (steam or large combustion) and preferred experience with rotating machinery generation. * Experience working in a small to medium sized consulting firm is preferred. * Understanding of engineering project lifecycle and project management processes * Strong Analytical Skills (Experience in MS Office, Outlook and Excel, CRM software) * Computer literacy for spreadsheet and project software * Time management skills, especially familiarity with calendar management and goal setting
