The Hydrogen Infrastructure group is a technical leader in the design, construction, and operation of compressed hydrogen fueling infrastructure solutions – these include stationary, semi-permanent, and mobile refueling stations, light-weight tube trailers, and station testing and certification equipment. We pioneered the design of turnkey, containerized hydrogen fueling station packages. Other firsts include the world’s first 700 bar “fast‑fill” hydrogen refueling station and the first hydrogen station capable of fueling four fuel cell vehicles simultaneously.
Under the direction of the Director for Hydrogen Infrastructure, you will play a vital role in leading the Project delivery engineering team. You will be responsible for a cross‑functional team of mechanical, process, and electrical/controls engineers and ensure the successful execution of hydrogen infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end‑to‑end delivery of complex hydrogen production projects from inception to completion. This includes planning and executing hydrogen fueling station projects, support of hydrogen transport trailer subassembly design and construction and Engineering studies as needed. Oversee all aspects of the team’s projects including, but not limited to adherence to project budgets, staff time allocation, drawing and documentation approval, and customer communication.
- Elevate and manage client satisfaction through direct and regular engagement, building and maintaining the client‑supplier relationship with a strong focus on responsive and high‑quality service delivery, and working with the team to provide effective solutions to clients’ needs.
- Develop and improve department objectives, quality compliance, procedures and processes, and assist in managing the technical and operational performance of the team. Effectively assign work and provide technical advice to engineers, projects and staff.
- Review work in progress and assess for accuracy, required results and compliance with quality assurance standards and procedures. Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including engineering, operations, procurement, and external partners, to ensure effective communication and alignment.
- Foster continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practices. Lead the production of operation and maintenance manuals for after‑sales support services.
- Develop long‑term business strategies and annual department‑specific objectives cutting across quality, health & safety, environmental, new services, capital investment, client engagement, and financial targets.
- Set annual staff objectives, conduct mid and year‑end performance assessment, address performance issues through performance management practices, support staff career progression by establishing personal development plans.
- Support the Director in building a resilient team through recruitment, change management, staff development and career planning. Manage and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.
- Maintain alignment with the expanding Powertech quality program and accreditations and provide support and input for its further development. Work collaboratively with other Powertech teams and seek opportunities for cross‑discipline projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics or equivalent engineering recognized by universities in Canada.
- Minimum 8 years of experience as a registered engineer in a relevant engineering field.
- Demonstrated a minimum of 2 years direct experience in managing all aspects of a highly qualified team of technical experts.
- Registration as a Professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
- PMP certification would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in testing and commissioning complex electro‑mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated management of a P&L and an understanding of annual planning, budgeting, and business forecasting is an asset.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships, make presentations to technical and non‑technical audiences and liaise with peers in industry.
- Thorough understanding of principles of managing multi‑faceted multidisciplinary projects; inclusive of budgets, resources, schedules, and deliverables through proposal, definition, initiation, planning, execution, reporting, and closure stages.
- Knowledge / experience with pressure vessel and piping codes.
- Familiarity with hydrogen fueling codes and practical knowledge of high‑pressure hydrogen systems.
- Familiarity with P&IDs, piping design, mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Understanding of fluids and thermodynamics.
- Familiarity with HAZOP and LOPA analysis.
- Experienced with CRN applications for Canadian safety authority regulators for pressure piping, fittings, and pressure vessels.
- Practical knowledge of assessment and implementation of safety‑related considerations and operational controls when dealing with high‑pressure gas systems, specifically hydrogen.
- Applicants who don’t meet full qualifications or those with lesser work experience may be considered for a P3 role.
- Job grade: P4.

- Annual Salary: $127K - $160K.
