Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Manager to oversee cost, schedule, and performance tracking for major infrastructure projects across Canada. You will report to the Sr.

Director, Integrated Operational Controls, and work with project teams in a fast-paced environment. The role requires strong analytical skills, 10+ years planning experience, EV management expertise, and willingness to travel across Canada.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project schedules.
• Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedule coding structures.
• Monitor schedule performance and variances from baseline.
• Conduct critical path and schedule health analyses.
• Develop recovery and mitigation plans for schedule impacts.
• Review contractor and subcontractor schedules for compliance and quality.
• Develop project control budgets and cost management frameworks.
• Monitor commitments, expenditures, accruals, forecasts, and EACs.
• Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Lead risk identification workshops and probabilistic forecasting.
• Foster collaboration among project teams.

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Integrated Operational Controls (IOC),the Project Controls Manager oversees cost, schedule, and performance tracking to support effective project delivery. The role requires strong analytical skills and close coordination with project teams in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do Here:

Planning & Scheduling

• Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project schedules.
• Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedule coding structures.
• Monitor schedule performance and identify variances from baseline.
• Conduct critical path and schedule health analyses.
• Develop recovery and mitigation plans for schedule impacts.
• Review contractor and subcontractor schedules for compliance and quality.

Cost Management

• Develop project control budgets and cost management frameworks.
• Monitor commitments, expenditures, accruals, forecasts, and estimates at completion (EAC).
• Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure alignment between cost and schedule data.
• Support monthly financial and project performance reporting.

Progress Measurement

• Establish progress measurement methodologies and KPIs.
• Validate physical progress and earned value metrics.
• Monitor productivity trends and performance indicators.
• Ensure consistency between field progress and reporting systems.
• Facilitate risk identification and assessment workshops.
• Perform quantitative schedule risk analysis (QRA/QSR).
• Monitor risk mitigation actions and contingency utilization.
• Support Monte Carlo simulations and probabilistic forecasting.
• Lead and mentor project controls personnel.
• Foster collaboration among project teams.

What You Bring to the Team:

• 10+ years of planning experience in infrastructure or mega-projects.
• Strong expertise in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating, cost control, risk management, change management and analytics.
• In-depth knowledge of Earned Value Management principles, production and productivity tracking, cost and revenue forecasting.
• Experience with 4D/5D modeling and integration of cost and schedule data.
• Familiarity with quantitative schedule risk analysis (QSRA) and cost risk analysis (QCRA).
• Ability to interpret and apply outputs from AI simulations to real-world project constraints.
• Professional certifications such as PMI PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, AACEI CCP and/or PSP considered an asset.
• Ability to establish program policies and procedures and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enthusiastic, self-motivated, eager to learn and takes initiative to get involved. Detail-oriented with a customer-focused mindset.
• Experience in training and mentoring planning professionals.
• Willingness to travel to perform frequent visits to project sites across Canada.

The expected pay range for this role is $140,000 - $180,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
