Job Description

AECOM's Cultural Resources Team is currently seeking an experienced Project Archaeologist to work out of any one of our Ontario AECOM Offices to contribute to the growth and diversification of our archaeology team. The successful candidate will assist in managing, coordinating, and completing various archaeological assessments and associated reporting in accordance with provincial standards while meeting the needs of our diverse range of clientele.

Responsibilities
  • Support the management of projects from the proposal phase to report completion, including coordination of multidisciplinary teams to successfully execute project deliverables.
  • Complete projects within client’s scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors and Indigenous partners.
  • Complete archaeological reports (listed author) in compliance with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) standards.
  • Familiarize with the MCM's archaeology and heritage online portal (Past Portal).
  • Prepare and implement field health and safety materials.
  • Pay attention to detail and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrate understanding of pre‑contact and historic artifacts found in Ontario.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in archaeological consulting or a similar role.
  • Valid Ontario MCM Research or Professional Archaeology licence.
  • Familiarity with MCM Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
  • Experience supporting archaeological fieldwork, including basic data collection and field documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics for field activities and small teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in archaeological consulting.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to archaeological reports as a listed author.
  • Previous project coordination or project management experience in consulting.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario MCM Past Portal.
  • Experience managing multiple field crews or complex field programs.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario pre‑contact and historic artifact types.
  • Experience tracking field effort and managing field datasets.
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance and heritage permitting processes.

Compensation

Range: CAD 65,000 – CAD 85,000 per year, based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
