POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Project Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, analyzing financial data, and ensure accurate and timely reporting on multiple large scale construction projects. This position is considered an integral role with the expectation of direct experience and education in construction and accounting, strong analytical skills, and excellent attention to detail.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations
  • Conduct financial audits to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to track project costs and budget variances
  • Assist in the preparation, setup, and maintenance of project budgets
  • Provides analytics of the financial status of construction projects
  • Preparing & reviewing financial reports for respective projects
  • Identify and monitor project revenue/cost variances
  • Track and review project Contemplated Change Notices, Change Directives, Change Orders, status and payment
  • Ensure a steady cash flow by generating, auditing and sending invoices to clients per their contract schedule
  • Monitor job performance, provide feedback, and work with Project Managers/Project Coordinators in taking corrective action
  • Read and understand project related contracts to ensure project set up procedures and invoicing are aligned with contract terms and conditions
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is an asset.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in project accounting in the construction industry is required.
  • Strong financial management acumen: advanced knowledge of accounting procedures and protocols, budget administration, financial forecasting, analysis, and reporting
  • Proven high degree of accuracy, effective time management, strong organizational skills
  • Relevant understanding of construction management principles and processes
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong skills in Box, Jonas Construction (an asset) or other ERP experience
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize activities and work under pressure
  • Results-oriented and ability to take initiative
