Job summary

Symbiotic Group Inc. is recruiting a Junior Programmer to support the Department of National Defence, developing software applications and assisting with system operations.

This Train-to-Hire role seeks candidates with 0–2 years’ experience, a degree in CS/Engineering, and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance; Indigenous lived experience is valued and encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Select and incorporate available software programs.

  • Verify accuracy by preparing sample data and testing via system acceptance test runs.
  • Create and modify code, screens and reports; document applications for later modification.

Overview

We are recruiting for a Junior Programmer to support our client, the Department of National Defence, for Programmer Analysts to work on software applications to support the operations of the Department.

Requirement
  • select and incorporate available software programs;
  • design detailed programs, flow charts, and diagrams indicating mathematical computation and
  • sequence of machine operations necessary to copy and process data and print the results;
  • translate detailed flow charts into coded machine instructions and confer with technical personnel in planning programs;
  • verify accuracy and completeness of programs by preparing sample data, and testing them by means of system acceptance test runs made by operating personnel;
  • correct program errors by revising instructions or altering the sequence of operations;
  • test instructions, and assemble specifications, flow charts, diagrams, layouts, programming and operating instructions to document applications for later modification or reference;
  • create and modify code and software;
  • create and modify screens and reports;
  • design methods and procedures for small computer systems, and sub-system of larger systems;
  • produce forms, manuals, programs, data files, and procedures for systems and/or applications; and
  • perform any other Work related to this category.
Technical Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience or education with one of the following languages: ADA, Java, C#, C++
Education
  • Must have: University degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Development or similar discipline
Lived Experience
  • Indigenous lived experience is an integral part of this position.The role will have a close relationship with the Indigenous Community in Canada and for Government of Canada positions that are part of the PSIB-Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business or IPP-Indigenous Participation Plans. Candidates will be required to have Indigenous lived experience from Canada’s Indigenous community to perform the role.
