Job summary

GFT is seeking a Program Manager - Transit in Toronto to join our Transit & Rail Practice. The role follows a hybrid work model with regular attendance at the Toronto office.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary program, mentor teams, and coordinate with client staff to drive on-time, on-budget delivery across rail and bus projects. A Bachelors degree and 15+ years in transportation are required, PMP is a plus.

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business or related field required.
  • 15+ years of Transportation program experience.
  • PMP certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee go/no-go decisions, resource allocation, and proposal development.
  • Lead contract development and project billing processes.
  • Monitor project progress and maintain financial targets.
  • Mentor project team members and foster collaboration.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Coordinate with client staff and CSL to identify future work.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for project teams.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

This position requires an effective leader who can plan, organize, and execute a program consisting of multiple engineering and architectural projects supporting major transit clients.

The Program Manager will develop and maintain contacts with client staff and executives to develop leads and sustain relationships. They will assist in identifying project managers and project team members, coordinate strategy, technical writing, and fee development for effective proposals. This individual will mentor project team members and foster a working environment where project staff will work together cooperatively to deliver projects on‑time and on‑budget.

GFT’s program offers planning, engineering, assessment, testing, and commissioning services and extensive experience in rail and bus systems, transit facilities, and civil and structural infrastructure.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Effectively GFT workflows and processes to perform go / no-go decisions, secure project resources, complete proposals, develop contracts, maintain project records, monitor project, bill clients, collect receivables, and close out.
  • Responsible for overall program execution, client satisfaction, achievement of project and quality management plan goals and effectively positions for future and add on work assignments.
  • Works effectively with project team leaders and support staff to monitor and control projects to achieve financial target metrics for all projects.
  • Mentors and coaches project team members and provide constructive feedback on team member performance.
  • Ensures projects are executed to meet or exceed client expectations while meeting industry standard of care.
  • Works with client organization staff and Client Service Leader (CSL) to identify, develop, and propose on future work assignments.
  • May manage direct reports consisting of architects, scientists and/or engineers which may or may not be directly working on the Program.
  • May manage a team, and if so, will manage scope, schedule, quality and budget, ensuring discipline leads and support staff submit accurate, on-time deliverables within budget.
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business or related field required.
  • 15 or more years’ experience in Transportation program experience.
What we prefer you bring:
  • Master’s degree or extensive large transportation program ($100M+) experience.
  • 10 years supervisory/management experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $152,000.00 - $240,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
