Guided by The Y Way and our commitment to Shine On Experiences, Camp Stephens fosters a culture where safety, inclusion, growth, and community are embedded in everything we do.

As a member of the Senior Staff team, this position provides leadership to the Program Team, Assistant Program Coordinator and Section Coordinators, ensuring the effective planning and execution of all camper activities. This individual ensures program excellence, aligns with organizational goals, and fosters a positive environment for both staff and campers.

WHY you'll love Camp Stephens:

Working at Camp Stephens means being part of a values-driven, people-first culture grounded in inclusiveness, well-being, sustainability, and inspiration, where leaders model The Y Way and bring Shine On Experiences to life through intentional leadership, strong relationships, and shared accountability. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative Senior Staff team in a unique island camp environment, lead and mentor a passionate group of program and specialist staff, see the direct impact of your leadership on camper experience and staff development, and contribute to an organization deeply committed to safety, child protection, belonging, and meaningful, mission-driven work.

  • Develop, organize, and deliver comprehensive training programs to equip staff with the skills and knowledge needed for success.
  • Play an integral role in the Senior Staff Team, providing leadership and guidance during emergency situations.

Program Operations

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of all camper activities through Section Coordinators, Assistant Program Coordinator and the Program Team, ensuring consistency and quality across sections.
  • Collaborate with Section Coordinators to ensure age-appropriate programming and smooth transitions between activities.
  • Establish and uphold risk management systems that reflect current best practices in the camping industry, prioritizing the safety of campers and staff.
  • Conduct routine inspections of program areas, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and meet safety standards.
  • Assess program performance by providing structured feedback to staff through both written and verbal communication, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Offer support to the broader team by stepping into operational roles as needed to meet evolving camp needs.

Administrative

  • Support the Camp Director in key administrative functions, including developing team schedules, facilitating staff onboarding, and managing parent communications.
  • Work collaboratively with the Camp Director to oversee program budgets, ensuring financial accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead staff performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback to foster their development and success.
  • Assist with interdepartmental communication between Section Coordinators and Senior Staff to maintain operational flow.
  • Prepare a detailed end-of-season report, capturing observations, recommendations, and an inventory of program resources and activities.
