Position Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of a diverse range of programs and initiatives for the City of Grande Prairie. This role leads the creation and implementation of recreational, and community‑based programming that responds to community needs and supports City priorities. Programs are delivered across various City facilities and community locations. The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with internal departments and community partners to ensure programs are accessible, well‑coordinated, and effectively delivered for residents of all ages.

Program Planning and Implementation
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate public, and special interest programs at various City locations.
  • Ensure programs are responsive to the needs of the community.
  • Deliver programs across multiple community locations.
  • Monitor program participation, registration trends, and overall success to inform future programming decisions.
  • May supervise staff in areas such as Playcare and program delivery.
Development of Public Programming
  • Design and implement public and community programs, including family programming, learn‑to‑play initiatives, community development workshops, and recreational workshops.
  • Conduct market research to identify community needs and inform program development.
  • Monitor registrations, participation levels, and program outcomes to assess effectiveness.
  • Provide recommendations for Playcare hours based on market trends and facility usage.
  • May supervise staff in areas such as Playcare and program delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as Marketing, Communications, and others to ensure program success.
Budget and Financial Oversight
  • Monitor, track, and approve program‑related expenditures.
  • Ensure programs are delivered within approved budgets and support overall financial sustainability.
Customer Service, Registration, and Data Integrity
  • Manage daily program registration processes and oversee customer interactions related to registrations, special requests, complaints, feedback, and new program inquiries.
  • Design and maintain program intake forms.
  • Ensure all program documentation is completed accurately to reduce liability.
  • Maintain, store, and organize program and volunteer records in compliance with FOIP requirements.
  • Ensure reporting and record‑keeping requirements are met.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in Education, Recreation, Early Childhood Learning, or Community Development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of applicable experience in creating, implementing, coordinating, and delivering programs for children, youth, and adults. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and team‑oriented attitude skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven time management, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of office functions, including Microsoft Office Suite and other supporting software such as Adobe.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with Recreation Management Systems required; experience with Xplor Recreation asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with the ability to travel between sites.
  • First Aid Certification – CPR Level C required.
Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Salary range of $30.63 to $39.62 per hour as per the Out‑of‑Scope Agreement.
