Qualifications

  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience as a certified Tradesperson.

  • A secondary trade in IMM, Sheet Metal Worker, Refrigeration or Steamfitter is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach theory and practical application components in classes.
  • Create a positive student-centered learning environment.
  • Evaluate and develop learning resources within the program.

Professor, Welding PSE and Apprenticeship - Part Time

Status: Part Time

Hours: Teaching is normally scheduled between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday – Friday

Home Campus: Stoney Creek

Rate of Pay: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the starting step

The Building Systems and Sustainability department within the Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship requires a part-time Professor and/or Instructor to teach in the Welding apprenticeship and/or post-secondary programs.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Professors and/or Instructors in this department are responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment using a blended model of presentation in classes.

Other teaching duties may be assigned within the Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship on an occasional basis as required by the College.

What you’ll be doing:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teaching theory and practical application components.
  • Creating a positive sustainable and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum and students.
  • Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
  • Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program.
  • Enhancing educational delivery and experiences using the College’s MyCanvas learning management system and other technology to facilitate student learning.
  • Applying College values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
  • Using the College’s MyCanvas learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
  • Use new technologies to enhance students learning, such as the vertex simulation welding system.

Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Valid Certificate of Qualification - Welder 456A. Red Seal considered an asset.
  • A secondary trade in Industrial Mechanic Millwright (IMM), Sheet Metal Worker, Refrigeration or Steamfitter, would be considered an asset.
  • Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience as a certified Tradesperson.
  • Related teaching experience, preferably in a post-secondary/apprenticeship setting, is considered an asset.
  • Adult Education teaching certificate is preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
