Job Description

The Department of Electrical Engineering has 31 professors, 3 teaching faculty members, 24 support staff members, 799 undergraduate students in Electrical Engineering, 189 undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering, and 304 graduate students. The Department’s faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in electrical engineering across a wide range of areas, including biomedical engineering, medical imaging, automation and control systems, energy and electrical networks, microelectronics, microsystems, microwaves, systems and telecommunications networks, and related fields.

The Department of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Outstanding candidates at the rank of Full Professor will also be considered. The successful candidate must be able to deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrate strong communication skills, show interest in industrial collaborations, and be committed to innovative teaching.

The Department is seeking candidates with demonstrated expertise in the design of digital or mixed-signal integrated circuits and the ability to develop an internationally recognized research program focused on energy-efficient circuits and hardware architectures for artificial intelligence and Internet of objects. The rapid development of artificial intelligence is accompanied by considerable growth in computing, memory, communication, and energy requirements. The position aims to develop new microelectronic technologies, integrated circuits, and hardware architectures that substantially reduce the energy consumption and hardware resources required by autonomous and AI systems, particularly by addressing computation, memory, data conversion, interconnects, and data movement.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, in-memory and near-memory computing; edge computing; low-precision computing circuits and architectures, including binary architectures; neuromorphic and event-driven architectures; specialized hardware accelerators for artificial intelligence; integrated circuits for high-speed communications and AI infrastructure; low- and ultra-low-power digital and mixed-signal circuits; and emerging technologies for energy-efficient computing.

Applications from candidates whose research programs contribute to the development of more energy-efficient and sustainable artificial intelligence systems, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, industrial partnerships, and technology transfer, are strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels;
  • Supervise undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students;
  • Carry out innovative research projects;
  • Obtain grants and contracts aimed at supporting research work with the aim of training highly qualified personnel;
  • Publish the scientific results of this research;
  • Participate in the department’s teaching and research activities;
  • Collaborate with other research teams at Polytechnique Montréal or other institutions;
  • Contribute to enhancing Polytechnique Montréal’s visibility and influence in Québec and internationally.
Profile And Job Requirements
  • Hold a PhD in engineering or equivalent in a relevant field at the time of starting the position;
  • Have a proven track record of developing and conducting an independent research program that will enable them to obtain funding to supervise graduate students;
