Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited in Calgary is offering a Production Engineering Student role to support our conventional and thermal production operations. You will work with production engineers and collaborate with Operations, Exploitation, and Reservoir teams to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges.

This 4, 8, or 12‑month term starts January 2027 and is based at our Head Office in Calgary.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Energy or related).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Spotfire, SQL, or Python is considered an asset.
• Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent provincial driver's license
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening test is required.

• Participate in active and inactive well reviews to evaluate well performance and production opportunities.
• Analyze production, drilling, completion, and operating data to assess asset performance and identify trends.
• Support production optimization initiatives to improve production and operational efficiency.
• Monitor production performance and investigate issues to support operational decision‑making.
• Assist with technical evaluations, engineering recommendations, and production engineering projects.
• Develop and maintain engineering reports, tools, and data analyses.
• Collaborate with Operations, Exploitation Engineering, and other technical teams to support safe, reliable, and efficient production.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ready to gain hands‑on engineering experience and make an impact from day one? Join Canadian Natural as a Production Engineering Student and work alongside experienced professionals supporting our Conventional and Thermal production operations.

The Opportunity

As a Production Engineering Student, you will work closely with Production Engineers and collaborate with Operations, Exploitation, Reservoir, Facilities, and other technical teams to support the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of our upstream oil and gas assets.

Production Engineering focuses on maximizing the performance of oil and gas wells through production surveillance, data analysis, well performance evaluation, troubleshooting, and optimization initiatives. In this role, you will apply your academic knowledge to real‑world challenges while supporting engineering studies, identifying improvement opportunities, and contributing to asset performance and operational excellence.

• Work schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off – 8 hours/day (Monday to Friday)

What You Bring To The Role

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Energy or related engineering disciplines preferred, all other engineering disciplines will be considered
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Spotfire, SQL, or Python is considered an asset
• Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
• Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent provincial driver's license
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screening test is required
