Job summary

Allstate Canada is seeking a seasoned software engineer to support the Guidewire BillingCenter domain within the ATS model, driving project delivery and integration efforts. You will work closely with multiple teams to harmonize capabilities with delivery needs across the application suite.

The role focuses on architecture input, code development for UI and middleware, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines. Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and agile practices are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Guidewire BillingCenter engineering and integrations.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, Agile, and project management practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Guidewire BillingCenter systems and related tools (Upgrades, Integration Gateway Apps).
  • Proficiency with Java Spring, REST, React, Kafka for integrations and microservices.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated tests.

Responsibilities

  • Drive project deliverables and harmonize team needs with delivery requirements and stakeholders.
  • Participate in designing and building application improvements.
  • Design and build on product roadmap, production defect fixes, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead Scrum ceremonies and guide the team with enthusiasm.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and problem solving for the product.
  • Code analysis and UI/middleware development; refactor for performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and retrospectives for continuous improvement.
  • Understand the full software development lifecycle from planning to release management.
  • Provide domain expertise and leadership on at least one technology stack.
  • Establish CI/CD and deployment pipelines and governance.

Overview

Allstate Canada, Financials, have moved to the Allstate Technology Solutions (ATS) model and have an opportunity to support our Transformative Growth plans. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growth area that will help to expand your skill base and give you the opportunity to grow and develop in a new platform. The successful candidate will help drive the deliverables of the project as well as the harmonization of team needs and capability with delivery requirements and other stakeholders within the delivery ecosystem across multiple functional areas/vendors. There will also be an opportunity to work closely with the other four Digital Product teams in Financials as a Product family.

Responsibilities
  • Help drive the deliverables of the project and harmonize team needs and capability with delivery requirements and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in identifying, designing and building application improvements.
  • Design and build on product roadmap, production defect fixes, general lifecycle management activities and ensure performance, availability, and stability of the application suites.
  • Participate in iteration planning meetings ensuring common understanding of each story and backlog items.
  • Participate in scrum ceremonies and lead the team with full enthusiasm.
  • Provide input into the architecture and design of the product; collaborate in problem solving.
  • Conduct analysis and coding for UI and middleware components, implement code refactoring for enhanced reusability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing (unit, integration, performance) and retrospectives to derive actionable items.
  • Understand all elements of the software development life cycle, including planning, development, requirements management, quality assurance, and release management.
  • Serve as an expert on a specific business domain and demonstrate leadership and accountability on at least one technology stack.
  • Establish Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Deployment pipelines and practices.
  • Build and manage integration of new applications in accordance with Allstate standards and governance.
Accountabilities
  • Take care of the Guidewire BillingCenter by troubleshooting and resolving any degradation of service, application validations and be involved in major and minor releases along with Disaster Recovery activity.
  • Participate in identifying, designing, and building application improvements.
Qualifications
  • Guidewire Certified to a minimum of Guidewire Specialist Configuration or Integration Developer 5 or more years' experience in Guidewire BillingCenter Engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge with SDLC, Agile and/or other recognized software development and project management methodologies.
  • Technical Experience with Guidewire BillingCenter systems.
  • Technical Experience with system integrations, Guidewire Gosu, Integration Gateway Apps, Guidewire Upgrades and Guidewire Cloud Ski updates to align with evolving business needs.
  • Knowledge in developing custom plug-ins, batches, messaging, and web services.
  • Knowledge of Integration Technologies such as Java Spring, REST, React, Kafka.
  • Technical understanding of Billing processing and associated data flows.
  • Experience in Batch monitoring and setting up alerts using Datadog.
  • Experience with Agile software development processes with a strong emphasis on test driven development.
  • Strong development techniques, such as debugging, testing (Unit, Integration and Contract), Behavior Driven Development, Test Driven Development, coding, use of productivity tools (GIT, JIRA, Confluence, TeamCity, Bitbucket etc.).
  • Familiarity with revision control systems Git /GitHub.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and experience in tools such as JIRA, SONAR etc.
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to learn rapidly.
  • Must be able to adapt to a dynamic environment, make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Must be proactive, results-oriented, customer-focused, and attentive to details.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to evaluate design trade-offs and document choices effectively.

Compensation

Expected compensation for this role ranges from $80,900.00 - 129,725.00 annually. Actual salary offered to successful candidates will vary based on their skills and experience.
