Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the produce department.
  • Ensure the department is well-stocked, clean, and organized; develop and implement procedures for efficient department management.
  • Assist with merchandising, receiving, rotating, and organizing product in the backroom and cooler.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise produce department staff; schedule employees and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback or coaching as needed.
  • Manage inventory levels and ensure adequate stock; monitor product quality and freshness, removing expired or damaged items.
  • Place orders for produce and coordinate deliveries with suppliers.
  • Create visually appealing displays; plan and execute seasonal promotions and ensure products are labeled with prices and information.
  • Address customer inquiries, assist with product selection, and provide information about produce to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Manage the department budget and control expenses; monitor sales and adjust inventory based on demand; analyze financial reports and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; implement and enforce food safety and sanitation procedures; conduct regular safety inspections.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth store operations; communicate with store management about department performance and needs; participate in store meetings and contribute to overall store strategy.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ produce/supervisory experience with product knowledge, rotation, merchandising, ordering and inventory control
  • Superior customer service, supervisory and communication skills
  • Proven ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods (4-8 hours), bend, twist, reach, and lift up to 65 pounds
  • Must be fully available days, evenings and weekends
