Job summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Procurement Specialist to support City departments with purchasing of supplies, materials, tools, equipment and services.

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Procurement, duties include reviewing requisitions, preparing tender documents, vendor sourcing, bid solicitations, procurement analysis and award recommendations, plus related inventory duties.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business Administration or professional supply chain certification.
  • Four years of purchasing experience or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Procure supplies, materials, tools, equipment and services for City departments.
  • Review requisitions, prepare tender and bid documents, source vendors, solicit bids.
  • Perform procurement analysis and prepare award recommendations; manage related inventory.

Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Procurement Specialist. Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Procurement, the incumbent procures a wide variety of supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and services for City departments. This involves reviewing requisitions, preparing tender and bid documents, vendor sourcing, bid solicitations, procurement, analysis of bids, and award recommendation. The Procurement Specialist performs administrative duties related to procurement, purchasing, and inventory of City of Nanaimo assets.

Requirements

Applicants must have a diploma in Business Administration from a recognized educational institution or professional certification from a recognized supply chain institution, along with 4 years’ purchasing experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement. The hourly wage is $44.03, increasing to $46.35 after 60 working days (Jan 2026 Rates).
