Job summary

LAPORTE is seeking a Process Safety / Refrigeration Engineer in Canada, hybrid work across Canadian offices. The role supports hazard analyses, safety programs, and ammonia/CO2 refrigeration system design for food & beverage and life sciences clients.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of process safety or industrial refrigeration experience, are bilingual (French/English), and able to travel for client engagements across Canada and beyond.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Canadian professional engineering association membership (P.Eng. or EIT).
• Minimum 2 years in process safety, chemical process industry or industrial refrigeration.
• Bilingual (French/English) abilities are required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate refrigeration-related PHA studies (HAZOP/What-If/LOPA).
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment data sheets and control systems.
• Prepare PHA tools and document risk analytics and reports.
• Support development and auditing of CSA Z767 and other safety regulations.
• Learn dispersion analyses and general hazard assessments.
• Contribute to ammonia safety deliverables: relief system design and vent calculations.
• Perform mass and energy balance calculations for refrigeration systems.
• Develop SOPs and operator training materials.
• Maintain project records and client relations.
