About Trail Operations

Teck's Trail Operations, located in the community of Trail in British Columbia, is one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Located in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern, British Columbia, Trail offers outdoor adventure at your fingertips.

Role Overview

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students pursuing their post-secondary degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, or related field. This student will be reporting to a senior Engineer.

Application Deadline: October 30, 2025 (we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis)

Minimum Qualifications: Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Desired Background: We are specifically seeking students who are eager to learn new skills in metallurgy and gain hands-on experience in an operating plant environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working in a safety-sensitive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
  • Seek ways to improve our process by collaborating with the engineering team and operations on new process development, plant process optimization, quality assurance initiatives, day-to-day problem solving, evaluation test work and data analysis
  • Assist with the advancement of technology through bench top, pilot and full-scale plant testing
  • Ensure a high quality of standards while collecting samples and performing analysis in the processing facility as well as in the lab environment
  • Prepare reports and formal presentations

Qualifications

  • Working towards an Undergraduate or graduate degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Process, or Mineral Processing Engineering
  • Comfortable working in a multifaceted industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage day-to-day projects and activities simultaneously
  • Flexibility to changing work schedules: this position may require adjusting schedule short term to support project assignments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with Python coding and SQL queries is an asset
  • A valid driver's license and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions is required
  • Access to your own vehicle for the duration of the coop term to commute to / from work is strongly recommended

Pay Range: CAD $5,000 - $6,000 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
