Qualifications

Role Overview

Reporting to a Technical Superintendent, Metallurgy Control, the Process Engineer is accountable for providing technical and metallurgical directions

Key Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize metallurgical processes to ensure safe, stable, and efficient plant performance across Trail Operations.
  • Interpret process and production data to identify trends, diagnose issues, and develop recommendations that improve metal recovery, product quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support day-to-day operations by troubleshooting process upsets, coordinating with operations and maintenance teams, and providing technical guidance to ensure targets are met.
  • Lead or contribute to process improvement projects, from concept development through implementation, to enhance throughput, energy efficiency, environmental performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain process models, mass and energy balances, and metallurgical accounting tools to support decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Participate in process safety initiatives, including risk assessments, hazard reviews (HAZOPs), and incident investigations, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, reliability, and environmental groups) to implement best practices and achieve continuous improvement.
  • Support capital project development by providing process input to design, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and standard operating procedures to communicate findings and support consistent operational practices.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence by applying metallurgical fundamentals and data-driven problem solving.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering is required
  • A minimum of 4 years of work experience in metallurgical or chemical or industries
  • Applicants must be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. ("EGBC") as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy or electrometallurgy processes and related technologies
  • Experience with developing PFDs and P&IDs is an asset
  • Experience with HSC and metallurgical simulation software considered an asset
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Good critical thinking, data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
