Job summary

Stantec is seeking a motivated engineer-in-training to help deliver municipal water and wastewater projects in Canada. You will contribute to design, reports, drawings, and specifications under senior guidance, while developing client-facing communication and project delivery skills.

The role offers exposure to feasibility through construction-phase coordination, with mentorship from senior leaders in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in chemical, mechanical, process, or civil engineering with an interest in water/wastewater.
  • Registered with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain EIT within six months.
  • Experience or interest in municipal water and wastewater projects is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and collaboration in diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake municipal water and wastewater design and pump station planning.
  • Prepare design reports, calculations, and construction specifications.
  • Develop drawings and tender documents under supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Prepare client presentations and report progress to project managers.
  • Conduct process simulations and site investigations as required.
  • Support project through construction with submittals and RFIs.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines and CAD technicians to meet schedules.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake municipal water and wastewater treatment system and pump station planning and design.
  • Prepare written technical reports, including design reports and technical memoranda to summarize calculations, economic analyses, and design bases.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design drawings, calculations, construction specifications, tender documents, applications for approvals, and other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Prepare presentations for clients and communicate design and task progress with senior engineers and project managers.
  • Conduct chemical or process simulation modelling as required.
  • Perform field work related to site investigations in support of design work and may include pilot and/or construction related activities.
  • Meet with clients, regulators and officials, public, and contractors to review project needs and coordinate field conditions.
  • Assists in supporting the project through construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
  • Communicate and coordinate with multiple internal disciplines, CAD technicians, engineers, and project managers related to task activities.
  • Deliver individual project tasks following project schedule and budget.
  • Supporting Project Managers planning and coordination for multidisciplinary municipal engineering projects.
Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of water and wastewater treatment engineering design (municipal and/or industrial), including process calculations and drawings, water quality parameters, and equipment selection.
  • Familiarity with project and construction management principles, including design coordination.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse team environments and contribute creative and critical thinking to project challenges.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and deliver accurate, high-quality work within project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and related technical documents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software, which may include hydraulic, process, and chemical modeling applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and positively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, process, or civil engineering with a strong interest in water/wastewater projects and registered with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training, or ability to obtain an EIT designation within six months.
  • 0-4 years of experience.
  • Co-op/Internship experience is considered an asset.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$63,300.00 - $88,600.00 Annually
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually
Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
