Job summary

Stantec in Dartmouth, NS is seeking a Process Engineer- In-Training to support water treatment projects for municipal and industrial clients. You will balance technical development with engineering delivery, contribute to design, and participate in business development and proposals.

The role offers growth in a collaborative North American team, opportunities to learn from experienced practitioners, and exposure to PFDs, P&IDs, and regulatory applications across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Process, Chemical, Mechanical, Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Min 2+ years of engineering experience (co-op, internship)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Health and Safety culture
  • Contribute to design basis reports, assessments, data analysis and calculations
  • Prepare PFDs, P&IDs and coordinate multidiscipline drawing sets
  • Prepare construction specifications and tender documents for regulators
  • Provide independent quality reviews for peers
  • Maintain relationships with clients, vendors and regulators
  • Conduct occasional site visits to support proposals and project development

In your role as a Process Engineer- In -Training, you will support our fast-growing process and treatment team that provides water supply and treatment design services for our clients in both the municipal and industrial realms.

You will be located in our Dartmouth office, where we already have a solid core of process/treatment practitioners, and work with brilliant specialists from across our North American operations.

Our ideal candidate will have experience as a consulting Process Engineer- In -Training delivering water treatment projects for municipal or industrial clients. This role will require a balance of technical development and engineering delivery. The eligible candidate will also have an opportunity to participate in business development and proposal preparation.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec
  • Contribute to conceptual design basis reports, engineering assessments, data analysis and design calculations
  • Contribute to the preparation of PFDs, P&IDs, and provide coordination of multidiscipline drawing sets as required for Industrial Water projects
  • Contribute to the preparation of construction specifications, tender documents, and applications for approvals to regulators on behalf of clients
  • Provide independent and quality reviews for peers on other projects within your technical subject matter knowledge
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, consultants, and regulators as needed always using a professional communications approach
  • Conduct occasional site visits to support proposals, project development, or business development
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic or developing understanding of water/wastewater treatment engineering design technologies and water/wastewater characterization for municipal or industrial applications.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines
  • Works in a team environment without direct supervision
  • Proficient writer and communicator
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Adobe with a developing knowledge of the ways to integrate AI add-ins for efficiency improvements.Completion of a Master’s degree in Water/Wastewater Treatment is considered an asset
  • Experience with process simulation modelling is considered an asset (hydraulic modelling, BioWin, Aspen/HYSYS etc.)
  • Holds a valid drivers’ license
Education and Experience

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
