Job description

Work Location: Cloudbreak - located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth

Step into a role where your technical skill, curiosity and drive for improvement directly shape the performance of Fortescue’s OPF (Ore Processing Facility) operations. We’re looking for a motivated, data-savvy and hands‑on Process Engineer to join our Engineering & Reliability team at Cloudbreak OPF.

In this role, you’ll be the engine behind plant performance insights, metallurgical analysis and process optimisation. You’ll work at the heart of the action – partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory and Planning teams to ensure our plants run safely, efficiently and at peak performance. From daily reporting to troubleshooting, testwork, sampling integrity and continuous improvement, you’ll play a key role in delivering quality, throughput and reliability outcomes across the OPF.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor OPF performance and work with Operations to deliver optimum quality and throughput.
  • Generate daily, weekly and end‑of‑month production and metallurgical reports that drive decision‑making.
  • Complete plant investigations, analyse bottlenecks and recommend improvement actions.
  • Support sampling, metallurgical testing and lab operations to ensure accuracy, integrity and safe practices.
  • Contribute to shutdown planning, trial work and unit‑operation optimisation projects.
  • Work cross‑functionally to improve plant availability, material selection and process efficiency – especially across critical areas such as Desands.
  • Liaise with the Quality team regarding feed blend to ROM to maximise product throughput and quality.
  • Assist in management of the OPF radiation gauges in respect to meeting the requirements of the Radiation Safety Act.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in mineral processing (operations or technical).
  • Strong understanding of iron ore processing – dry and wet circuits, beneficiation principles and metallurgical testing.
  • High‑level communication, technical writing and data analysis skills.
  • Confidence working autonomously in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Solid computer capability including MS Excel; SAP or delay accounting systems a bonus.
  • A mindset geared toward learning, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Tertiary qualification in chemical, process or metallurgical engineering.
