Job summary

A leading engineering consulting firm is seeking a Process Engineer to oversee diverse engineering tasks related to new product development. This role involves project management, technical oversight, and collaboration with various teams to improve medical device manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience, including a strong background in mechanical and process engineering. This is a full-time onsite position in Kanata, Ontario.

Job description
Process Engineer

The purpose of this role is to perform and oversee varied engineering, scientific, or applied scientific tasks related to the establishment of new products or projects of significant scope and complexity. The incumbent will be responsible for the planning and development of a product or project to meet prescribed objectives and will act as a technical specialist in their area of competence.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise project activities under general guidance.
  • Coordinate project activities by understanding and organizing project objectives, planning required activities, identifying necessary resources, and establishing schedules.
  • Carry out or direct technical activities to ensure project objectives are met, including specifying, analyzing, calculating, testing, and interpreting.
  • Contribute expertise to several projects simultaneously and provide expert assistance to other departments in solving complex problems.
  • Exercise cost responsibility for assigned projects and work to achieve product cost objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of calculations, design studies, experiments, tests, and estimates, following established standard practices.
  • Establish and maintain necessary interdepartmental liaisons related to projects.
  • Monitor and report project progress and provide solution alternatives for reported problems.
  • Install and service company products as required within the field of expertise.
  • Perform experiments or tests with outcomes that have a high degree of uncertainty.
  • Design, build, and test prototypes of high novelty equipment or processes, and conduct failure investigations.
  • Perform hands‑on production or development work to lead or train other staff.
  • Act as a witness in development or production processes.
  • Represent the company on national and international committees, boards, panels, study groups, and commissions.
  • Perform other related engineering or scientific duties as required.
Essential Skills
  • University Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an appropriate discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in the field of specialization beyond graduation.
  • Capacity to understand, interpret, and explain complex technical systems or phenomena.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in one or more pertinent disciplines or sub-disciplines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others or as part of a project team.
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and reliability.
  • Good knowledge and appreciation of company operating policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrated personal qualities of initiative and the ability to set appropriate standards of technical performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in mechanical and process engineering.
  • Experience in GMP environment, with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Experience in qualification and validation of manufacturing lines.
  • Proficiency with Solidworks, controls engineering, PLC programming, tooling design, process improvement, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma.
  • Preferred industries include Pharma / Medical / Cannabis, Aero / Defense.
Work Environment

The role requires working 5 days on site, including time in the lab and on the manufacturing floor. The position supports the development and manufacturing of a device used for liver cancer treatment, offering a significant opportunity to improve efficiencies and yields of a well‑known medical device that has impacted thousands of lives.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Kanata, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $56.00 / hr.
