Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Process Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this role supports the development of new products and the deployment of Next Hydrogen systems into operations and the field.

During the design phase, the Process Engineer will be responsible for process design activities including P&IDs, layouts, component selection, BOMs, and assembly documentation. The role plays a critical part in ensuring a smooth transition into manufacturing and supporting product deployment through commissioning and ongoing service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and support all process aspects of product development, delivery, and service
  • Develop process flows, detailed P&IDs, equipment layouts, and interconnections for test equipment and production systems
  • Research, test, and qualify new and improved process components
  • Support field installations, system commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Design and install new process and instrumentation systems for existing and new equipment
  • Prepare instrumentation designs, drawings, SOPs, work instructions, and operating and maintenance manuals
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and control systems and provide innovative solutions to component or system failures
  • Support preventative maintenance activities for products in development, production, and the field
  • Calibrate components and instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications
  • Assist in establishing testing capabilities and supporting product validation activities
  • Participate in product deliveries and support service and maintenance contracts at customer sites
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Build strong working relationships across teams while promoting accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada (required)
  • 8–10+ years of hands‑on experience in mechanical process design, equipment installation, commissioning, and service within an industrial or product‑based environment
  • Strong experience designing mechanical systems including P&IDs, layouts, high‑pressure tubing and plumbing, and system integration
  • Experience supporting products from development through manufacturing and field deployment
  • Knowledge of hydrogen and/or chemical processing technologies; experience with hydrogen systems is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of hazardous area codes and standards, including B31.3 and the Canadian Hydrogen Installation Code
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑pressure gas systems, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment installation and maintenance
  • Experience participating in safety reviews and audits, with a strong safety‑first mindset
  • Proficiency with CAD systems and working knowledge of quality management and ERP systems
  • Strong documentation, communication, and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
