Position focus

The current focus of this position is to function as a technical specialist in Wastewater and Water Treatment Systems and to oversee capital projects as assigned. This position is responsible for applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

Process Control:

  • Collaborate with Instrumentation and Control teams to plan and execute instrumentation troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Provide technical input on process control considerations during design, commissioning, and operations support.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to wastewater and water treatment processes.
  • Generate clear technical reports and recommendations to support decision making.

Process Optimization & Troubleshooting:

  • Continuously evaluate, model and improve the efficiency and reliability of existing treatment processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting of process and equipment performance issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Project Management:

  • Contribute technical expertise during the design, review and commissioning of wastewater and water treatment projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and operations staff to support project delivery and smooth handover to operations.

Change Management:

  • Assess, document, and implement process changes safely and effectively, ensuring impacts on treatment performance are evaluated and communicated.

Environmental Sustainability:

  • Implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of wastewater and water treatment processes, such as energy efficiency and resource recovery.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and organizational safety protocols.

Research and Innovation:

  • Monitor and evaluate emerging wastewater and water treatment technologies and practices, recommending innovative solutions where applicable.
Additional Information
  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering or a Master’s Degree in Process Control would be considered an asset.
Key Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater and water treatment principles, processes, and equipment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills. Experience with working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including providing technical expertise and direction.
  • Demonstrated process engineering experience, including directing and guiding the work of consultants.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
Certifications
  • Professional engineering (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or eligibility for designation.
