A leading energy company in Lloydminster seeks a Process Engineer responsible for monitoring operational targets and engaging in reliability and safety initiatives. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 4 years of relevant experience in Oil & Gas. Knowledge of HYSYS or PetroSIM software is beneficial. The role includes conducting analyses and providing troubleshooting support to maintain operational efficiency.

About this opportunity

Reporting into the Manager, Process/Unit Contact Engineering, the Process Engineer is responsible for the monitoring of the day‑to‑day operating targets of the assigned Upgrader Complex units, identifying and communicating deviations and completing corrective actions as required. This requires close engagement with operations and other disciplines to ensure our work and decision keeps safety and reliability above all else. In addition to the monitoring, the engineer will identify and create project notifications as required in the assigned units, and support the development of the project scope. The role will lead multidisciplinary plant‑wide and corporate initiatives related to reliability, safety and the corporate standards and procedures of Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS).

Work Environment

This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area.

What you’ll do
  • Identify and communicate unit performance capabilities through mass and energy balances, process simulations, performance test runs, and vendor/specialist consultations.
  • Implement plant and process changes and process hazard assessments using the Management of Change process, engineering work requests, and unit PHA revalidations.
  • Provide shutdown support, initial/final process equipment inspections, found work, and startup support for planned and unplanned outages.
  • Conduct and/or support Root Cause Analysis and incident investigations using Intelex and ProAct methodology.
  • Provide support to evaluate, generate and identify feasibility of Engineering Investigations based on safety, process reliability, unit efficiency, and profitability.
  • Work along side the Operations team to troubleshoot process deviations, inefficient operations and make continuous improvements to plant safety, reliability and efficiency.
  • Implement small projects and MOCs, compile technical reports, review and update datasheets, P&IDs and Line designations, and Safe Operating Limits.
Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and/or Refining.
  • Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Process, or Petroleum Engineering, or other Engineering disciplines with related experience.
  • A member in good standing or eligible for registration with APEGA / APEGS.
  • Experience with HYSYS or PetroSIM refining simulation software.
  • Knowledge of federal and Saskatchewan provincial environmental regulations considered an asset.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre‑employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre‑employment screening for the final candidate.
