A leading engineering firm in Calgary, AB is seeking a Process Engineer to oversee design execution and resolve technical challenges in the upstream oil and gas sector. The ideal candidate has 4–10 years of experience, a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, and is registered with APEGA. This fully onsite position offers a pay range of $80.00 - $90.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Registered with APEGA (P.Eng or E.I.T.).
  • Experience with mechanical equipment such as pumps and compressors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sizing calculations for PSVs, control valves, separators, compressors, and flare systems.
  • Run hydraulic models and simulations for gas plants and oil batteries.
  • Prepare design calculations and briefs.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Write technical reports and engineering studies.

Skills

4–10 years of upstream oil and gas experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
Strong understanding of sweet and sour gas processing
Familiarity with flare system sizing, valve operations, and gas dehydration processes
Proficiency with HYSYS and VMG Symmetry

Job Title

Process Engineer

Job Description

As a Process Engineer, you will play a vital role in coordinating across multiple disciplines including electrical, mechanical, instrumentation / controls, civil / structural, as well as procurement, project controls, and project management. You will support design execution and resolve technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Perform sizing calculations for PSVs, control valves, separators, compressors, and flare systems (high and low pressure).
  • Run hydraulic models and simulations for gas plants and oil batteries.
  • Prepare design calculations and briefs.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare equipment and instrumentation datasheets and specifications.
  • Review vendor documentation and conduct technical evaluations.
  • Participate in process safety activities, including relief system design and relief valve sizing.
  • Attend HAZOPs and address resulting action items.
  • Write technical reports and engineering studies.
  • Coordinate across disciplines to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stamp process calculations and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, with task-based responsibilities of varying TIC sizes.
Essential Skills
  • 4–10 years of upstream oil and gas experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Registered with APEGA (P.Eng or E.I.T.).
  • Strong understanding of sweet and sour gas processing.
  • Familiarity with flare system sizing, valve operations, and gas dehydration / sweetening processes.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment such as pumps and compressors.
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and VMG Symmetry.
  • EPC or Owner background acceptable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior HAZOP participation or training.
  • Experience with client-facing engineering support.
  • Familiarity with producer-side operations.
  • Willingness to travel to vendor and construction sites as needed.
Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based, requiring five days per week in the office. Minimal and occasional travel to vendor and construction sites may be necessary. The position involves a combination of office work with some fieldwork.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $90.00 / hr.
