Job summary

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • At least one year of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (Symmetry, HYSYS) and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong technical aptitude and curious mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process engineering deliverables with guidance from seniors (P&ID’s, heat and material balances, datasheets, control narratives).
  • Interact with equipment vendors to specify and design equipment.
  • Perform fundamental process calculations.
  • Develop process simulations.
  • Incorporate findings into project documentation and equipment design specifications.
  • Support fabrication, testing, commissioning and startup activities at client sites as required.
  • Support advisory projects including technology research, benchmarking, risk assessments, technoeconomic models, and executive presentations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reports to: VP Engineering & Advisory

Exergy is seeking a motivated and detailed‑oriented Process Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Calgary, Alberta to join our team. This role requires a strong technical aptitude and a passion for solving real‑world challenges. The successful candidate will support Exergy’s multi‑disciplinary team across both engineering and advisory projects and will be expected to apply engineering first principles, critical thinking, and a go‑getter attitude to deliver outstanding work products and outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of this role are as follows:

  • Work with more senior team members to develop process engineering deliverables, including but not limited to process flow diagrams, heat and material balances, P&ID’s, equipment and instrumentation datasheets, control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Interact with equipment vendors to specify and design equipment.
  • Perform fundamental process calculations.
  • Develop process simulations.
  • Incorporate findings into project documentation and equipment design specifications.
  • Support fabrication, testing, commissioning and start‑up activities at Exergy’s Nexus or at client sites as required and appropriate.
  • Support advisory projects, including:
    • Conducting technology research, benchmarking, comparisons
    • Participating in technical evaluations and risk assessments
    • Developing of Excel‑based technoeconomic models and analyses
    • Developing strategic reports and executive‑ready PowerPoint presentations
